how much do i need to pay to get what i want?

Guys what do you think of a slightly older mk4 mondeo? This one is £4395, and a 2009 model thats done 115k. Its the Titanium X but unfortunately not the sport model so the bodykit isn't as nice. The slightly annoying thing is the quoted mpg is lower, assume because its the older engine.

It's a 2.5T Petrol.

It's got worse economy because it doesn't use the economic engines from the Mk4.5. Expect the fuel economy to be worse than advertised too.

That doesnt seem like a bad idea then as a compromise. If you can pick that up for 4 it'll give you a car that meets pretty much all your requirements and still save a good chunk of cash for a house deposit :)

From my experience in owning a Focus ST225 I agree. Especially when tuned.

It's super expensive to repair if something goes wrong with it though!

Why would that be? I thought petrols were supposed to fairly cheap to repair hence why im going for one over a diesel.

The alfa above is nice, but they have a poor reliability reputation dont they so its off the table.

Modern turbo charged petrol engines have got almost as much stuff in them to fail as a diesel

They might be expensive to repair (I have no first hand experience of this) but the 2.5T should be reliable enough that you won't need to repair it in the first place as long as it's maintained well. It is a Volvo engine afterall...

I just looked up the tyre costs for the Mondeo Titanium X Sport. In either 18" or 19" wheel £150 a corner is the cheapest. ** Disguised swearing is not acceptable ** me.

Check other tyre websites. I got my set from camskill.

Also the hatchback has a very large boot already so unless you absolutely need an estate, I wouldn't hold out for one. It's hard enough waiting for one with the right spec and price to come on the market;

I already have a mondeo hatch so Im familiar with the space. An estate would however be very useful for carrying the kids bikes, due to the height advantage.

How much do you pay for fitting if you buy tyres from elsewhere?

I use Event Tyres, the Conti SC5s are about £115 each inc. fitting. Less if you can find a discount code. They come to you. Much easier than farting around buying tyres online then humping them to a fitter etc. It's that or I use my trusted local tyre fitter but sometimes Event works out cheaper.

Just to give some clarity on the Saab..

I've got a 57 plate 9-3 Aero 2.0T. Bought for 3.5k with 102k on the clock. Decpetively quick providing you know how to drive a turbo quickly and I think looks great, especially in blue. This isn't mine but mine is exactly the same.

I find it reasonable fun to drive but the suspension is a bit 'crashy' at times. Seats are the best I've ever experienced in 25 years of driving. The stereo is woeful and the interior build quality is a bit suspect in places. I've had it remapped from 210hp to 250hp by a guy on the Saab forums and it never gets old out-accelerating knuckle-draggers in BMWs and Audis.

You get a lot of car for your money and they have a following on forums for help. I bought mine from a guy who specialises in Saabs and Volvos in Chipstead - thoroughly nice and genuine guy and worth a trip to see him.
