Companies who advertise next day but it's really bait n switch

Legally yes your contract is with the seller and anything that goes on before the item arrives with you is on them but using common sense you can see this is not the retailers fault, considering pretty much all the big online sellers use the same couriers it could have just as easily happened never mind where you ordered it from.
It's not like you paid for next day and they've sat there with their thumb up their bum rather than packing and shipping your item.
It seems that common sense really isn't all that common.

In other news, I think the OP is a massive whinge baby.

Well I ordered Thursday morning and they can't get to me before Monday apparently. No they don't all use the same couriers because if I order something from ocuk I usually get it next day via D.P.D. So it's not an impossible mission to get next day. Parcelforce just buggered it up.

I have no issues from the Jungle place. I pay for next day and receive next day. Always.

I've only ever had one problem with the Jungle place and that was a result of me putting my old postcode with my current address. It still managed to make it to me and only a day late!

You know every rule has an exception, right? :)

On a more serious note, who hasn't had a problem with Citylink, Parcelforce, Interlink or DPD at some point?

My OCUK recent order arrived on-time thankfully but the tracking information had the wrong driver name and time - I don't blame the retailer for such things. Why would I?

Maybe :p. I just don't like being taken for a ride.

To be taken for a ride, there has to be intentions to do so. What's happening is that you're feeling inconvenienced. In the world of couriers and package deliveries, it happens.

When you pay extra for guaranteed services, the general rule is that you get compensated if they can't fulfill that guarantee, not that they will uphold said guarantee no matter what.

I think you're just taking the delivery of your stuff way too seriously.

STUFF DELIVERIES, SERIOUS BIDNESS

OP, pick all your toys up and arrange them neatly. It's all going to be okay.

Was off work today as well. Now I'll need to arrange another day off. Getting something delivered shouldn't be stressful it should be happy happy exciting!!

I would have grudgingly accepted Saturday or Sunday delivery but Monday is a bridge too far. The line must be drawn here!!! This far and no further!!

I can kinda see the OP's point here - if you pay for next day delivery then you should get next day delivery, if they can't guarantee it they shouldn't advertise it*.

It's not just the case of getting the delivery fee refunded - say you need to take a day off work to make sure you're in the receive the item, are they going to refund you a day's wages so you can take another day off unpaid for when they do actually decide to deliver it?

Re: the delay being nothing to do with the supplier... well, if enough people refuse their non-next-day deliveries, it's likely the supplier will start looking for an alternative courier company who isn't losing them money and business...

* Barring things obviously outside of anyone's control such as the delivery van breaking down/crashing etc, in which case they should bump you up to Saturday/Evening delivery as is convenient for you.

This is a 10 on the annoyance scale. Especially with a midweek purchase;

Order Wednesday - Dispatched Wednesday - Delivered Thursday - Rare
Order Wednesday - Dispatched Thursday - Delivered Friday - Most common
Order Wednesday - "Dispatched" Thursday - Delivered Monday - TOO COMMON

I find it odd that you consider something not going your own way to be stressful.

He might be overreacting a tad but his grievance is justified IMO. He may have taken a day off work based on their assurance. I personally haven't been affected by stuff like this but can appreciate it'd be annoying.

RMSD isnt any better. Paid for an item to be despatched vie special delivery 1pm.

Saw on the tracking it had got to Newcastle overnight and was on its way to my local sorting office at 5am that morning.

Postman came at 11am and no parcel. I ring sorting office and they say its funny you should mention that, we normally get 40 to 50 special delivery parcels on a Tuesday and there was hardly any this morning and I even queried it with the delivery driver in case he had forgotten a bag or two but he was adamant they hadnt.

Turns out delivery driver had dropped two bags of special delivery parcels at the wrong sorting office that morning. To give Royal Mail their dues though, they then paid for a same day courier to delivery the parcels to their customers although it was 3pm when I got mine. I even got a phone call back from the manager apologising.

Because they handled it so well I didn't bother getting my money back for it not been delivered by 1pm.

But just goes to show, it wasn't the retailers fault that it didn't arrive on time and never would I blame them.

I could understand the OP's point of view if they hadn't bothered despatching his item at all. As it stands, refusing to sign for it seems mental. Just claim back the delivery cost. You are still going to get it quicker than ordering another one from elsewhere.

Bait n switch are the sites which show stock and offer next day delivery but don't actually have stock and only order it in you order the item. They finally do despatch it next day but they have it covered in their T&C.

I once had Yodel twice not deliver a package despite it getting logged out on the van each day because their driver ran out of time each day and couldn't get all the parcels delivered. Now that is a shoddy courier company. I ended up collecting it myself on Saturday morning.
