Black Ops III: 12 GB RAM and GTX 980 Ti Not Enough

Pretty much a yearly occurrence yet people still preorder this ****. :(

Yup, once again, another game that is ****ed up on release but the sad thing is.... millions of people will still pre-order the next game instead of voting with their wallets. Nothing will change when you got a consumer base that just love to bend over and throw their money away without even knowing how a finished product will perform, it is laughable but rather sad at the same time tbph.

You say memory leak, I say no regard for optimisation, just like last years release funnily enough. Advanced Warefare used 10GB vram at 1440p with the Titan X, this one does too! Oh the progression.

As someone else has said, COD died after Modern Warfare.

My lad just picked up Cod 4:MW on steam (after I recommended him get it ,as he had never played it) having played all the other CODs that came after it and he said it craps all over the newer ones.

Stop pre-ordering and the quality of launch day releases will go up....it does make sense. What's the point of playing a game if it's technically borked and a pile of pants at launch.

I personally think it's great that WB seem to have (hopefully) set a precedent with Batman AK and with any luck this will have a domino effect on other PC releases.

More personal experiences with the latest COD are very welcome though as I would prefer to go by experiences of people on these threads rather than other reviews elsewhere.

Well I came here to see if anyone else was having issues! Seems like I'm not the only one then:(

To be honest I have only given it a shot on my daughters machine which has a Nano as my 980Ti machine hasn't downloaded it yet due to steam playing funny buggers on me! (Side note: I found if steam refuses to install, you need to download another game and then for some odd, unknown reason kicks into gear).

I will give it a go at 4k on my 980Ti and see whats what.

Yup its pretty much the iphone of the pc line, will sell out the ass regardless of how half assed it is.

As i said before i really think that's down to the incredibly dated engine getting updates tacked on to it to try and make it hold up with more modern games. With the Billions activision has raked in from this turd you'd think either buying or developing as new engine would be something that would cost the equivalent of whats in the petty cash jar, but nope. Tack on more gimmicky effects, performance be damned.

I think it was cod ghosts they tried to say it was a new engine then soon backtracked to say it was yet another update, the engine has had more additions and tack ons then the most maniacal body modder.

Couple of benchmarks up.

Most curious for me is how different AMD's and Nvidia's memory profiles are. Where 390x uses 5GB on each resolution tested, Nvidia cards ramp up with each resolution. What is curious though is how different memory management is between 2 different 6GB cards for nvidia, where Titan uses more memory for each resolution compared to 980 Ti.

Actually both Titan models seem to use same memory allocation pattern, despite one having 12GB and one having 6 GB.

Probably as a result of the tuning amd are doing for specific games for hbm, presumably it also has a knock on effect for other cards.

Only good cod? Cod2 lol

Original and the expansion were better imo, cod 2 is where the console elements started to appear like the magical health regen that's now pretty much standard in fps :(

Im running a 980, the Mrs is running a R9 390 and its much much much smoother on her 390 compared to my 980 :( despite me having a 4790k and she has a 4690k what is going on here. also i have noticed that its in multiplayer its a bit smoother but still there is a considerable performance increase on the 390 over the 980. To say im miffed is an understatement.

Hmm true. What was the expansion on the original?

Cod2 and Cod4 were about on par i think, I loved both one modern the other WWII. There was some serious skill going on back in those days with the rifles especially the Lee Enfield or Karsk 98. Never was a fan of the Garand or Thompson.

Nothing like spotting someone and popping up and snap shotting them dead in one shot and then re-ducking all in 2 seconds or less. Now you hear about sounds and markers of multiple bullets coming in. Just a pathetic excuse to call spongeyness a normal netcode?

I put well over 1000 hours into Black Ops but this isn't going to get much sadly. I miss the dedicated server days as well as the quality.
