I have the Asus Maximus VII Formula which has dome pretty decent onboard sounds seen in this picture -

My question is, Is that good enough to drive a 250 Ohm pair of Beyerdynamics and get a good experience ?

Eventually I'd like to get a tube amp but only have this for the time being.

Should be fine, Beyer 250s are not actually that difficult to drive - a nice tube amp will obviously sound better but this should sound quite decent in the mean time.

Awesome thanks, Last time I used onboard was around 10 years ago :p

Any recommendations for a good tube amp ? Budget is around £100 but can stretch if quality demands it :)

£105 will buy the Schiit Vali, a hybrid tube/solid state amp, which drives my HD650s very nicely.

£127 will get you a Little Dot Mk2 for a very well priced full on tube amp.

£140 will get you an Aune T1 mk2, which is a decent DAC, a tube buffer and a passable solid state amp. The tube is used to "colour" the sound which basically adds a kind of euphoric distortion and gives it that silky smooth tube sound.

With either of the top two you will either have to use the motherboard as a DAC and feed straight into the amp or add an external DAC to the chain.

Thanks for the info, The Aune T1 MK2 has caught my eye, A DAC/AMP combo with tube looks to be a good combo :)

The T1 gives you the opportunity to do some cheap tube rolling as you only need to buy single tubes. I eventually stuck with a Mullard 6DJ8 which only cost me £15 or so and made the sound ridiculously smooth, which should be a good pairing with the DT990 as their high end can be a bit hot.

Awesome thanks, I'll look into getting the tube you mentioned :)
