i can get a new pair of AKG 712pro headphones for £165.00
is there a better headset for gaming in the price range or will this be best.
thinking about getting the asus xonar u7 external soundcard. will this power the heaphones.

£165 is a great price. Little hesitant whether the U7's amp will be enough though.

The K712 will work with the U7, but if it's not giving them the juice they need to perform at their best, that will be doing them a disservice. You'll be judging the K712 on how they sound connected to the U7; so if that can't allow the headphones to perform as well as they can do, that will in turn affect your opinion of the headphones.

The K712 is one of the best I've used for all round gaming. At that price I don't think there's anything better unless you buy the K701 and use it for pure competitive gaming and likes spaciousness and detail over warmth.

As £165 seemed like a price that might be too good to be true, I decided to see if anywhere was selling them at this price. They are on eBay for this price, with the seller claiming items are sent from the UK, when it appears that many people have commented they are actually sent from HK.

eGlobal do get a lot of good feedback, but there are some negative comments on other sites; particularly when it comes to warranty, or lack thereof.

Getting such headphone for 165 smackers is mighty tempting, but personally, it's not something I'd want to risk given where the items are actually located. Even if the product arrives fine with no problems, there is the chance of being stung by customs. Some people have said that they were, despite eGlobal saying they use a courier where no import duties are required to be paid.

i just cannot believe people are so misinformed about gaming headsets.

i spent around £150 on some real razer surround sound headset like 10 years ago. it's crazy tho think i could spent half that price and got something better.

just don't fall into the trap of constant upgrades the k712 is an end game headphone for everyone apart from crazy enthusiasts who can spend 5 times as much.

i would look at a better dac/amp in future though. you can get some ridiculously good setups for around £200 (schiit vali + o2 dac).
