PayPal started charging for sending 'Friends or family' money?

I thought it was only free if the money was in the PayPal account. So the cost is for loading money to the account before sending.

Edit: sorry missed it was a debit card rather than credit. In which case I don't know .

Think they charge for taking it from a card, but it's free if it can come straight from your bank. I have PP setup to take DD straight from my bank when I buy something and my card as a backup, but it does say that there may be charges using cards.

Well I haven't changed anything recently so I don't know why they've decided to change it to the card. I don't care for such an insignificant amount, was just curious.

Ive done loads of F and F payments over the last few months and not been charged. Paypal balance is always 0.00 so comes straight from my card

PayPal charge for card use. You probably added the account details from the card but not the cards specific unique number. This would link it straight to the account and not the card :)

Everyone needs to get on board with Pay a Contact anyway - send money straight to a phone number from your bank to their bank account, instant and no fees.

Added bonus is the name verification you get (you put in a phone number, it pops up saying "You're sending this money to Roy RealName") meaning there's less of that "oh my god, did I get the bank account details right" process you always go through :)
