What is the HGV industry like at the moment for recruitment?

I'm just gauging an interest.

I've recently served a 6month totting up ban TT99 for 4 speeding offences.

I hear there are driver shortages in the industry. Just wondering if it is realistic to find work with a TT99 code on my licence?

The Area Traffic Commissioner would've poo pooed you in an instant but as there is a chronic driver shortage you might just get granted a provisional "Heavy Licence".

After you've passed your test you may well have to Agency for a while as I very much doubt you'd get taken on the books until your speeding convictions clear.

The reason for that is there is a 6 point max clause from their insurers.

I spel for yodel and we are always short of drivers (mostly class 1) but we wouldn't touch someone worn speeding offences.

You might manage an agency, but even then we wouldn't be happy if we knew.

TT99 and you want to be a professional driver? Good luck with that

Most employers and agency's won't touch you with a TT99 in your past, the ones that will, you wouldn't want to work for! :p

As far as recruited goes, HGV drivers - Class 1 especially - are very much in demand, this time of year especially, good rates too, I have a mate earning £25 per hour at weekends, dragging out trips to London & back!

Its gotten to the point that we are paying to get warehouse workers from the normal license up to class 1.

I was tempted myself.
