I'm back baby!
If you haven't seen it there is an announcement at the top of every forum. Direct link is here.

We can't just tell you that we are a community and expect that to work. Everyone needs to be involved if things are to improve. I still think this place is fantastic and as you all keep returning I assume that you all feel the same way too.

I'd like feedback on the announcement first. I would like further feedback on other things later but can you share your thoughts and feelings on the announcement please?

Keep it civil, and please try to make the feedback constructive :)

Not very constructive feedback, but I read it earlier and was impressed. Nice to see a moderating team who are willing to make the effort to be less of an us-and-them and more an integral part of a community. :)

Good work.

First thoughts are, maybe the announcement should be more publicised? Maybe in GD as that's the busiest forum. I only noticed it a couple of hours ago and I've been on all day!

Maybe I'm not enough of a trouble maker but I thought all of this already happened.

Nah. I could have told you I think your mother huffs kittens and your father smells of elderberries.

Not now though...not now...

:p

Didn't see any announcement, I think I automatically ignore anything right at the top above the stickies...

Anyway seems fair enough, although a little over the top for a forum..

I would say that it sums up the forum pretty well and just wants to make sure it stays that way. Like Kenai says, it's just a wordier but almost easier version of the current rule set.

To me, OcUK is a community that you find good discussion, good help from others, see some uber skills in build logs and get good banter but you will always have the ones pushing the boundary or the patience of others. You get rewarded for being part of it with the MM and eventually, the "adult" section. :p

I think you're going to have an incredibly tough time with
We will not post anything with the intent to offend or attack any individual or member group of these forums
In treating each other with respect we will not intentionally post trolling, spamming or deliberately harmful posts
We will not sabotage threads by intentionally taking them off topic

I imagine it's going to take a while to get an idea of when stuff is intentional. If someone expresses a view that they don't believe gay people should be allowed to marry then could that be interpreted as an attack on the gay members of the forum? Presumably someone posting it would know that people affected by the statement might not agree with it.

The announcement probably leaves as many questions as answers to be honest. Should just go with "don't be a ****head".

Not sure that's required - Gilly

Not sure I understand the "purpose" of this Charter, as someone else mentioned it seems to be a reimagining of the existing rules and etiquette we are all used to?

There is no rush and this thread and resultant conversations should help :)

As many are saying, the content is very similar to what we have anyway. What was intended was very much to solidify in everyone's mind what is expected. The vast majority of members don't need to be told the content of the announcement.

"don't be a ****head" is probably the easiest way to summarise the whole thing in a way that won't leave grey areas, to be honest.

:D
