Miele Cat & Dog if you can stretch your budget a bit further.

Just got one of these even though we don't have pets the amount of my wife's hair that it removed from our bedroom carpet was staggering! it is a brilliant product and I've found myself vacuuming much more often!

Numatic HARRY (comes with carbon smell filter) and an airo brush or a hairo brush. Only thing the hairo brush is brilliant at picking up hairs but it won't agitate the carpet like the airo brush.

And don't be put off by the 500watt power it has been brilliant I even use it for clearing leaves in the garden.

Having 4 dogs and 3 cats, we've been through quite a lot of hoovers.

The best one we have experienced (and use currently) is the Henry Xtra.

Been through a number too and still looking for one that works well enough.

One thing I will say is that VAX cleaners are ******* CRAP!!!!!
From 800w right up to 1400w, special 'designed for pet hair' and all manner of fancy attachments... waste of money, the lot of 'em!

We have a Miele - one down from pet one - Although a good vacuum it won't lift Hollys dark hair properly from short pile carpet -- Found best thing is a hacksaw blade - hold each end and draw it towards you and the amount of fur it drags out is staggering - I have now fixed a blade into piece of hard wood so it's easier on hands - do our carpets about once a month.:eek:

Buy the cat and dog head it's the only real difference between the models and it is simply staggeringly good at removing hair that is well and truly embedded!

I've had my Miele c+d for 6 years, still going strong. Amazing how much you can fit in the bags and the turbo brush is amazing.

Do you have the Turbo head with spinning brush in or the one with metal channel that runs from either side of the head. £50 or £12 - Of those I lean to the Turbo brush. :)

The cat and dog comes with a rebadged turbo brush (they just write cat and dog on it!) it's the best head for general carpets as the brush properly agitates the pile with the added bonus of it removing loads of hair.

My Dyson DC40 (with the pet hair brush) seems to be coping well after about 3 years of use. Needs fairly regular cleaning of filters etc to keep it at it's best.
