Which executive estate?

Hi guys

I currently have a c.14 year old E46 330i which has a few niggles, so I've decided it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking to buy an executive estate car and would like some suggestions on which cars I should look at for c.£25k. Ideally I'd like the car to be at least as quick as my 330i.

I'm not too concerned about economy, but I expect most of the cars in this class are diesels. I only do around 12k miles pa currently with an 18 mile round trip to work along a 50 limit country road. Is this likely to cause any issues with DPFs? I do a fair bit of driving most weekends, so this may help with any DPF issues.

Cars I've thought of so far are BMW 5 Series (F11), Audi A6 and Mercedes E Class. Hoping to try out each of these at the weekend.

If you have any opinions on which options to go for on any cars mentioned too that would be great.

Here's an idea....

Sort out the niggles? If you're happy to spend 25k, I'm sure you could get your car pristine and keep 22k and wait a while longer?

He sounds like he's in a similar situation to me when I got my F10. 13 year old E39 530i, wonderful car, fed up of the constant niggles. Once it gets to that stage you stop enjoying it and begin to resent it.

I can quite understand when you put it like that, it just seems crazy to spend 25k unless there was a major problem. Are they expensive to repair (are bills usually in the sub or plus 500 category?).

If I was saving that amount of cash, personally I'd be happy to pay for a few bits here and there (as long as I thought the car was okay more or less).

I dont see it as spending 25k to avoid the repair work, it's spending 25k to upgrade to a new car - the decision for which has been pushed over the edge by the amount of niggles

This is exactly it. I've had the car for 7 years, and it's a CAT C write-off after I hit a pothole coming up to 3 years ago now so it is pretty much worthless. If I fixed the problems with the car, I'd expect more to crop up in a few months time anyway.

I fancy a change, and the niggles in my current car have given me the excuse for a decent upgrade. I also have a baby due in January, so it makes even more sense to get a new car with a bit more space. It's likely that I will keep the car for a number of years, so the up front cost doesn't really bother me too much.

Ah, don't bother with the CLS shooting brake then. The rear seats aren't suited to a lie-flat car seat and the F10's boot is cavernous. Congrats :)

Find a 535d though, you know you want to ;)

Could you really not live with Oyster leather?
I don't think cars like that come up very often, but I don't know how much options mean to you. I like my toys and I couldn't imagine buying an F10 without at least HUD and comfort seats. This one has comfort seats, HUD, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive drive, heated rear seats (good the for Mrs when she's in the back with the baby on those cold winter mornings ;) ), and the list goes on...

I'd put up with the Oyster leather for that car. They're as rare as hen's teeth in the UK with spec like that, aren't they?
