OCUK - lack of tablets

IIRC they made a decision to get out of the tablet game a couple of years ago, as there was little profit and a lot of hassle.

I suspect that's it.

They're a low value consumer item that tends not to be supported well by the manufacturer and everyone from the local cornershop up (almost) seems to sell them.

IIRC a couple of years back there were huge stocks of a lot of models sat in warehouses because the bottom fell out of the market at certain price points (no one at the manufacturers seemed to realise that unlike Mobile Phones the average user wasn't going to buy a new tablet every 12-18 months for every member of the family).

From my experience in dealing with tablets in retail is that they require a lot more after sales support and attention than laptops or computers and though they generally have a lower life span, the margins are practically non existent for most retailers. If you throw in the high rate of theft and time spent in after sales support (usually with things like e-mail set up and every basic 'how to' question you can think of) then it isn't really worth selling unless your supplier offers you a great deal. RMA rates are also quite high on cheaper tablets.

I dont know why OCuk dont sell many but it could be because it simply isnt really worth it and demand on an enthusiast website like this is probably a fair bit lower than other places (the company i previously worked for sold 21 tablets for every laptop in 2014).
