Forum "Disputes"

The only option I think worth considering is a public one and a private one. Then people can choose to discuss things in private or not.

You are welcome to highlight baduns by RTMing their posts. :)

Not the point I'm making at all. at the stage where a person felt aggrieved enough to post in the disputes section we would be way passed the rtm process.

But if someone was silly enough to post a aggrievment and the moderation was fully within their rights to do what they did. All it would do is make the complaintent look bad.

Keep it private, that means forum users and mods have a little more freedom in what they can discuss.

Disclose any worthwhile, relevant conclusions to the wider forum. Not necessarily as a follow up to the original issue specifically, but as a lesson or just information on forum use generally.

Can't see much positive coming out of a public debate.

That's how I feel about it to be honest.

It wouldn't be a public debate. Just a open gallery for the public to spectate. No third party would be able to post.

You would only post in the first place if you had a genuine reason to. And if the party feels strongly enough to do that then they would probably feel strongly enough to bring it to the communitys attention
