Feedback on today's announcement

Can we please change the subject and take this to a new thread is you have to..

The problem with how the thread has gone is due to lack of action in enforcing the very rules in the mission statement.

What was the point of it then? It's obviously not being followed

Would have been better rewording it to " talk to people in a way the mods find acceptable"

I don't think you can judge the entire idea of a charter by the fact that a thread has gotten out of hand.

Mods are here now and trying to get people back in line. It's not an overnight process.

Yup. We now have people deliberately offensive and dehumanising terms because they know it is offensive, with the knowledge that I've told I can't use the RTM button anymore because for some astounding reason the mod team have to 'discuss' whether the word is acceptable or not.

What an absolute ******* joke. My initial confidence in the membership charter and mission statement that this place may actually be making an attempt to shed its horrendous past image and drag its image up from gutter was obviously misplaced.

Lack of action? You mean not bowing to one person's frankly ridiculous victim mentality regarding a comment that wasn't even aimed at causing offence?

In fact, the whole thing comes across as a tantrum designed to avoid having to continue arguing a losing point.

But I see it time and time again on thses forums. People just cannot communicate in a respectful way to each other.

Just because one person on the forum finds it offensive. Doesn't mean nobody else does.

Imagine the backlash the business could get if. Someone wanted to make a point of Ocuk is anti transgender, anti gay anti this anti that.

Don't you mean 'trantrum'!!

The 'charter' does not say that anything someone finds offensive is automatically offensive, its message is that you shouldn't post with the sole intention of being offensive. Someone saying 'tranny' is not automatically trying to be offensive, so in my opinion lafemmefatale should be ignored.

It's not just this thread though, it's happened in the other thread and the one before about trans people was rife with the same kind of language and people being deliberately offensive. Nothing was done then, either.

The idea of a charter in the face of something like this shows how robust and meagningful the charter actually is, or if it's just a bunch of people paying lip service to an ideal they don't really believe in but think keeping up that appearance is the best way to go.

So far, it's looking pretty useless.

Please can we stop engaging with the baiting posts?

Discussion about the announcement is fine. Discussion about the fact that the use of a word is under discussion is not.

Nothing will happen instantly. Everything takes time.

That's obviously what LFF is counting on...

Again, context.

It's not like it was used in any kind of derogatory manner. I'd argue that most people see it as a simple shortening of the word and nothing more.

There are no rules to say that people can't have an opinion.

Opening statement

We believe in allowing you, the member base of the Overclockers forums, free reign in sharing your opinions even where we do not agree with them. This is the core of healthy debate.

Whether you or anyone agrees with other peoples opinions is irrelevant. It doesn't necessarily make them a troll either... We are not here to moderate opinion.

.

I didn't say you can't use the RTM system, I said your point was acknowledged and is being discussed so there's no need to keep reporting the same thing.

I would rather people were allowed to post like a moron, so that we can debate, educate or otherwise feel better about ourselves, than to see difficult beliefs forceably excluded. What good does it do if the only place you can be an intolerant ***** is in the corners of the internet where everyone is an intolerant *****?

Better that they can be challenged, even if their slow-wittedness doesn't allow much room for appropriate growth of thought.

Aww I spent ages typing out my post, it was nice too :(
Yeah, snap :(
