so yesterday i changed the heating instead of being on from say 6-9 continuously i changed it to come on and off for 15 minutes at a time. i then told my dad and he said " dont have it coming on and off every 15 minutes it ruins the timer, some guy told me".

other examples;
turning the light on and off
opening and closing the electric car window
they are just the two i can remember.

so why do old people say these things? if it was going to break it wouldnt let you do it.

tell me i am wrong or why they say these things lol.

Why would you set it to come on and off? Just pick the time period that you'd like to be warm for, and let the thermostats do the rest.

Surely it's easier and cheaper to set a temperature and let the thermostat do it's job?

A lot of houses don't have a thermostat, i've never had one in any house i've lived in for some weird reason. I do intend on in vesting in a hive or nest when i get boack from my jolliyes though.

What controls the heating?

Or are they the radiator based ones?

I see ageism is alive and well in GD.
And I see no benefit in having the heating go off and on every 15 minutes or am I missing something? I am old after all.

"Mileage Marathon" competitors will alternate between full throttle and coasting to achieve maximum economy.

CH Boilers are actually much the same.

When I was a heating engineer, I got called out to an old lady's house whose heating had failed. Opened up the boiler cupboard to see what the problem was, and I was greeted by copper pipes that were gleaming so much I almost had to put sun glasses on. I asked her what the deal was and she said that when the last guy installed the boiler, he told her to polish the pipework once a week to prevent it from rusting. This was four years prior to me turning up. She even had a little bottle of Brasso and a rag in the cupboard.

Poor old lady :D

the idea was to have the heating on longer but not cost any more money.

i know things wear out but not from say using them 5-10 times. the other two things i said where things i thought of from when i was a kid. i would have got bored after say 1-2 minutes lol. not like i would have sat there and used the car window for 3 hours.

there is no thermostat in the house. anyway after he said it i changed it back.
