980ti or Fury x?

I am thinking of buying one of these cards but reviews seem to not be able to choose between the too and benchmarks don't seem very definitive either.

Easy the gtx 980ti. Why well it's more powerful especially when overclocked, has more over clocking headroom, better drivers, many games now use nvidia gameworks which if you have an amd card performance is bad so you have to turn off the extra effects. The 980ti has more memory and runs slightly cooler and uses slightly less power. I'm pretty sure most here will recommend the 980ti.

Having had both the Fury X and 980 Ti I can say without the shadow of a doubt, Get the 980 Ti.

Overclocks wayyy better, Outperforms the Fury X, Very frequent driver updates, Better software i.e GFE, Shadowplay and cheaper than the Fury X etc...

better drivers
Have you seen the nVidia driver thread? Might want to.

They run badly on nVidia cards too, it's called gimpworks for a reason :P

Even taking those 2 **** poor excuses for "positive" reasons to go with the Ti, I'm still recommending the Ti. Why? Not because "better drivers" or "gimpworks" or "NVIIIIIDDDIIIIIAAAAA" or whatever lame reason, simply because with the overclock it's just a faster card.
The fury x would be a "gamble" at this point, it might get voltage control one day and prove to be the "overclockers dream," but at this point I'm doubting it. It might also prove to be significantly faster in DX12 applications, but it's another Might. So at this point I doubt anyone can recommend the Fury over the Ti I'm afraid.

Maybe you missed this...

The best deal ATM is the standard Fury imho, a good chance of it unlocking atleast partially. You can pick them up for over £100 less than a Fury X too.

980ti, as above they just overclock so much better that even in games that favour AMD they maintain a big lead, and then in games that favour NVIDIA there is no contest

I own a 980ti.

If I had to choose again then it would still be a 980ti. When a big game launches I don't want to have to wait for a decent driver to play the game.

^^And this guy is an AMD fan and tried the FX!!!! :D

nVidia seem to have won this round, BUT if I was a betting man I'd say the FX is more of a long-term investment...

Yeah still has better drivers than amd by a long shot not perfect but defiantly better. And still runs the so called gimpworks better than amd so there for the lesser gimped. Bearing in mind it's only been two and a half months since I moved to nvidia I'm very confident in which is the better of the two currently even if they actually were the same speed cards.

Long term as in completely obsolete when AMD release their high end Arctic island GPUs :p

Indeedy, I actually do own a few AMD cards and even 1 AMD rig I use as an HTPC :p

GPU's
HD 4850
6970
290X
Fury X *Refunded due to one of the tubes leaking :(*

CPU's
1100T
8150
8350

I've pretty much had every ATI/AMD card out since the early 2000's.

Between the two, I'd go for the 980 Ti, but I suggest you try and find a second hand Titan X for the added VRAM. (No, I'm not selling.)

980Ti for sure. The overclocks alone make it the better deal for me. I would say Fury X if in it's current state was sub £400.

By the time they unlock the Fury X to be overclocked properly, 14/16nm cards will be here. lol.

Get the 980Ti, the real overclockers dream :D

think the real question has yet to be answered. what res? because if it's 4k you have to give 390 xfire a look surely? for 1440 the 390 xfire is overkill, the 980ti out performs the fury x and is the better choice there.

granted 390's will need a good PSu but cheap and powerful with the vram for future proofing at 4k. The major drawback is xfire support obviously, if that's worth it is a judgement call

FURYX
Much more quite and cool 50c
Only couple frames per second difference it really isn't that much.
Drivers are sound ignore people here nvidia are just as bad. /fact
HBM is the future once devs start tabbing into this memory for dx12 expect a decent performance boost.
Freesync, if you go this route imo the monitor selection is much better.

980ti
Much more hotter and louder expect 80c + before even overclocking.
Gsync
Not going to mention Gameworks because most can be run on AMD also. But for me Physx is a winner even if games are so far between.
GFE shadowplay amd need to pick up the ball here.
Drivers nvidia have issues also.
