First car suggestions for 20yr old girl

The mind always boggles that people think prestige branded cars such as Audi/bmw/Mercedes are suitable first cars.

Lower tier brands such as ford, Toyota, Renault etc should be a first car.

If money is no object fine, but the budget of 8k suggests otherwise.

There is nothing drastically different between a Focus and a small engined a3 so I fail to see that logic.

Much more chance of finding a dog right enough, but careful buying and engine choice mitigates that

For someone coming straight from their test maybe but we're taking about someone with 3 years experience now, don't see any reason she shouldn't get what she wants as long as reasonable examples are available for the budget.

An a3 is based on the same platform as a golf or seat leon. no one is saying go out and get an R8 or m3 as her first car.

I can't imagine being 20 and my mum still having a say in anything I do.

Well I tell a lie, I told my dad when I was first interested in buying my legacy turbo, I would have been around the same age, perhaps 21, can't remember now.
I certainly had had my own house for at least a couple of years and was engaged.

He said something along the lines of "you are not having that you will kill yourself"

I can remember what my response was "**** off".

I'm 18 and buy what I want with my own money... my parents (well my mum) even though they have their say. They don't interfere with my purchases of cars/bikes, they let me make my own decisions.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I was looking for things that I couldn't think of, off the top of my head. DS3, 500C etc are all examples of them!

My sister looking at an Audi is half because that is all we have in a family so she likes them, but half not knowing what else is out there. And parents have a say as they pay for insurance whilst she still lives at home.

+1 for a mini, great cars loved mine and often take the Mrs' mini convertible out for a spin and love it and its not hard to find a well looked after example
