Watch for 3 year old

What a ridiculous question. He's 3, buy him the cheapest watch that tells time. Are you that ill equipped to make a decision on the benefits of a watch to the needs of a 3yr old. It's any wonder he's made it to 3 if that's the case. What information were you expecting to get?

Suggestions from people about what could possibly help him learn how to tell the time? Not exactly a serious thread as well since I played along with the Apple/Rolex thing but I don't see the harm in asking. I was hardly asking for a £500 smart watch for him.

Did your elders not teach you that if you've not got something useful to say you should keep quiet?

Don't get a digital watch - teach them to tell the time properly. Besides, many primary schools only allow the kids to wear analogues watches.

As for teaching him, for the first month just ask him what time it is and tell him to only look at the small hand, i.e. 5 o'clock, 10 o'clock etc. After the first month, then get him to tell you if it's "before" or "after" the hour - i.e. before 5 o'clock or after 10 o'clock. Then finally introduce the minute hand to define graduations of "before" or "after".

Be patient though, telling the time on analogue watches takes kids a long time to learn - hardly any kids at my wifes primary school come to school being able to tell the time.

all joking aside, I was about to suggest a seamaster as they survive for a very long time. However, surprisingly I will suggest an apple watch. Not because I like them, but you can send a love heart to show your kids you love them.

You don't want them to feel unloved do you?

If he likes spiderman just get him an analogue watch from anywhere.
Ebay has allot of them for under £5.
You don't need to go crazy.
Just something that is analogue so he can learn to see what the hands of the clock mean and how to tell what time it is with them and has pictures of his favourite superhero etc on.
Do not get him a digital it will just make him lazy, he needs to learn the time properly.

As few examples, there are loads.

Don't get digital, more and more kids these days are going through school and cant read a digital clock. Hell, my nephew is almost at drinking age and he only really just started but still struggles.

Digital may be easier for the kids but why does it actually need to be easier? I am going to assume he has no meetings or appointments so urgent that you would trade the educational advantage of the analogue watch for the ease of digital.

Get him one that glows in the dark, I had one and didn't take it off for years. Another move is to get him a grown up looking one and tell him its a big boy watch. Novelty is the key to keeping a 3 year olds attention.

Casio F91W, comes in funky colours and will last forever.

This. My son has 3 of these now. Cheap enough to lose or break. Although I don't think digital helps kids learn how to read a clock.

Most of the kids watches on Amazon get poor reviews, same brands available in most high street shops.

Casio F91W terrorist watch, will last his whole life. Battery will probably last most of it as well :D

Or, if you want him reading from a proper clock, then the Casio MQ24 gets good reviews.

Thanks, just ordered one. Less than £6 on Amazon.

Thinking about it, I had a Thunderbirds one when I was 4. It was awesome and I had no idea how to read it. I also have always had very skinny wrists so it never fit properly :(

Argos have some decent first watches that have the faces with the different sections on and come in a few colours.

Cheap and cheerful is all really he needs especially if he will wear it to nursery or when he's playing.
