Hi chaps like my thread says . My sytem is about 2 years old now and still runs great its just that i want to play fallout 4 but not sure how my gpus will cope. I am running 2 HIS 7950 s and so far never had a problem with them at all. Would these be ok to handle fallout 4 with reasonalbe settings . I only play at 1080 on a144hz monitor so would it be wise to upgrade my gpu...i was thinking of a gtx 980 and that is about top of my budget. Also stupid question time . When i ran bf4 for some reason when i put my monitor in to 144 hz mode i just got a blank screen , 120 hz was just fine . If i do play fallout 4 do i just set my monitor to 144 hz and will it work or is there a setting in the game to enable the 144 hz. thanks guys just dont want to get a new card yet if i cn get away with it for a bit longer alos it seems a shame to dithch the 7950s cos they have been a good card and they dont fetch much second hand...

oh my cpu is a i7 3770 and im running 8 gig of ram if this helps

Providing you're not expecting a constant 60fps at ultra settings, I think you'll be fine with a 7950. It all depends what you expect? I should think it'll manage a reasonable frame rate with a mixture of medium, high and ultra settings.

Last I heard, dual gpu configurations aren't well supported in FO4, yet.

Thanks for that chap. Just a quickone . If i did upgrade would a gtx 980 be a good choice compaired to my 7950s..I quite like the look of the 8 pack 980 but it doesnt appear to have many reviews compared to say the msi 980?

Best to wait until AMD release a profile for fallout 4 and see how you get on. Crossfire performance is not fully supported in the game yet.

My work PC has a 960 and a 1080p 60hz monitor, it never dips below 60fps, with everything on except shadows down 1 notch from top and motion blur disabled because I hate it.

Would think a 7950 would be fine, the game is basically skyrim engine wise.

Try the Crysis 3 profile for acceptable crossfire performance. Not the best scaling but I get almost constant 60fps on my crossfire setup which is roughly same as yours..
Single card gets 60fps if you turn off godrays and use medium settings.

In a majority of titles, I don't think you'd see much in the way of a noticeable fps boost, really. However, you may find it a smoother, quieter experience with less heat, as well as not requiring a profile for crossfire to work might be a bonus, too.

Here's a really rough example of 'kinda' what to expect. I've used a 7990 to represent two 7950s, so expect a little less fps than what you see here to get a more accurate figure.

I've not used crossfire for a long time, though as I remember any fps drops were more obvious in terms of smoothness than when compared to a single gpu solution, thus it was particularly important to keep the fps higher.

In your shoes, I would first try the game out & see if I'm satisfied with the performance, and then only upgrade if I had one too many issues with dual gpu gaming (which sounds like you don't). However, if you do upgrade, it might be wise to aim even higher, like a GTX980Ti. I suppose the more pleasant an experience with crossfire, the greater the upgrade needs to be, but then, why upgrade if you're happy? :)

AMDs performance in it is abysmal, as they havn't released a driver for it yet (its coming), their top card the FX, gets well smashed off the 970.

A 390/390X would be my recommendation for an upgrade.

Your 7950's lasted as long as they did as they had 3GB VRAM.

The 980 only has 4GB - which will limit how long it will be able to run high/ultra textures etc.

Meanwhile the 390 series have 8GB - which will last you much longer.

Take a look at the new COD game, which was using 4-6GB already, depending on resolution.

In CCC goto Gaming > 3D Application Settings and add the Fallout4.exe which is located in the game install directory (\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout4)

When you then click on the Fallout4.exe section, under the AMD CrossfireX section you can set crossfireX mode to 'use AMD pre-defined profile'. Then choose the relevant game profile (i.e Crysis 3).

I think you go to the 3D Settings, and click add, find the Fallout 4.exe, then somewhere at the bottom of the Settings page, you'll find a new option, where you'll be able to select from a pre-defined profile, Crysis3 should be in the list, so just select it, and then just save it, im not 100% though, as ive never used that yet.

EDIT: Beaten above, i was right though :p

thanks a lot m8 , when i get the game i will give it a go or would the crysis profile work for other games ...ie gta v

The Crysis 3 profile is not some special profile that will magically work with any game. After testing many different profiles someone found that it is one of the profiles that works well with Fallout 4. Other profiles such as Farcry4 profile also may work too.
Once AMD release a new driver with a Fallout 4 profile then you won't need to use Crysis 3 profile. You could use the Crysis3 or other profile with GTA5, etc but since GTA already has a crossfire profile why would you need to?

AMD is due to release a new driver suite on the 24th November which may include a Fallout 4 profile.
