*** lumia 640 & 640xl ***

not found anything that makes the Keyboard more suitable for 1 handed just yet
I know this isn't keyboard related but this feature is not on your 920 (lower than 5 inches), but you and Tuvoc will have access to this...

BTW, It's not Rick Astley :-) Hope you don't mind me shoving my nose in as I know you weren't talking to me...

Cheers for that. Useful for tapping damn burger menus found on may website these days.

Didn't see that featured when I frequent WinCentral.

Not upgraded the 640XL as it's my daily, so I look forward to using that come release date.

Just grabbed a 640 whilst visiting the USA (on offer in Best Buy). £48 and ATT will unlock it free.

Great phone.

Got fed up of lack of apps compared to ios/android so bought a LG G4 instead, besides the apps the difference is chalk and cheese, the 640 is pretty much a budget handset, this was also confirmed with my short use of a lumia 930 which again was in a different league, for the money the 640 is decent value but thats all it is really

Is the camera 'on' all the time with this phone, or is it possible to turn it off please?

If so, how?

Thanks! :)

Think I will try pick up one of these second hand to have a play around with, if I can find one for a decent price. My Samsung ATIV S is getting a bit long in the tooth and I didn't really enjoy using Android on an LG G4 in the way that I enjoy using Windows.

Will be interesting to see what Windows 10 is like on a phone.

I'm finding the 640XL a bit slow. My old 625 is a more responsive phone. My guess is it is related the the screen size of the XL. The straight 640 may be faster. But you can't expect everything in a budget phone.

On a more positive note, the Dual SIM capability of the 640XL is awesome. (Mine is not a UK retail single SIM 640XL, it came from Hong Kong via mobicity). Was out of the country for 3 weeks, and had a foreign SIM in there as SIM2, handling all data plus local calls. The UK SIM1 received calls from the UK as normal. Back in the UK, I now have EE as SIM1, which is my contract SIM, and I have giffgaff as SIM2 as pay as you go, solely for their cheap international call rates. Dual SIM is brilliant, and Windows Phone handles it brilliantly.

Well I picked up a second hand 640 a few days ago and have installed Windows 10 upon it. It's not the quickest thing out there, but I don't know whether that is the fault of the phone or the OS.

However, the largest shortcoming in my eyes is the screen. Although the resolution is fine, the black levels and brightness are no way near as good as the AMOLED unit on my ATIV S. This is somewhat of a shortcoming given the heavy use of black backgrounds throughout the OS.

Bring on better Windows Phones!

Very happy with the 640XL screen, I find the black levels and brightness just fine. Way better than my older 625 anyway...

Anyone seen any decent deals on XL?

Edit - couldn't stand that POS any longer and can't afford 950 so Argos had them at reasonable price, so back to WP for me, thank God.

I've done pretty much the same as you after seeing the prices of the new 950s. Just a bit too hot for me so I picked up a second hand 830.

Unlike your bad experience with I think it was a Redmii Note? I had a fantastic time with my OnePlus One, I know it has it's detractors because of issues and support but I thought that phone was brilliant, ultimately it was just too big for me, in general use it was great but putting it in my pocket to go the pub was a nightmare...

Anyway, back on topic for 640 and 640XL, hope you enjoy your new mobile.

It feels like an old friends come home. It just works.
Only lost a few apps, can live with that, as android never delivered. As some didn't work when rooted, others didn't work when not. The phone was fine ( its score very high on benchmark and scores well in reviews) it was the os for me. Hated the fact nothing matched every single app and icon had a different design. Nature of the system. Things didn't work, or you had to install so many roms or tweaks to get it to work. May take another look once cyangenmod has cortana fully integrated.

If Iphone had some equivalent to widgets/livetiles I could probably put up with the rest of the simple UI and heavy restrictions as it is by and far the leader for a phone across the board.
I hope w10 means we get more apps but I wont hold my breath.

What really surprises me about these Windows phones is that they rarely go above 1GB of RAM.

I actually want to get a Windows phone but I want to make sure it has Win 10 and runs well on it. Taking a look at the 640XL, think it will be suitable for that?

EDIT: I see the 640 is on AT&T for only $59 on a no-contract phone, seems crazy cheap!
