KTM Superduke GT

Looks awesome, shame it's only got the standard travel suspension, a bit more travel would hopefully deal with bumps a bit better, but the active suspension should deal with them.

Basically a superduke that's more comfy and can take panniers :D

What do we reckon on pricing? It has a lot of the 1290 super adventure tech, probably £15-16k.

I may not do but just fancy a change after nearly 4 years. Must admit though, I've grown very attached to the GS with all the trips I've done on it, and the memories of taking the kids on Eurotrips etc.

Ideally I'd buy a second bike (S1000RR in matching Motorad colours!) to scratch the itch but space is limited.

The superduke GT seems to fill the role of supernaked that can do long distance, looking at it it's both a Multistrada/S1000XR and a supernaked rival - a supernaked with wind protection and hard panniers that can do long distance.

Take off the panniers, and you've basically got a 1290 SDR, with a fairing. edit: haha that video show exactly what I just said - comfort to get you to the alps, and when you're there whip off the panniers and you've got a superduke 1290. :D

Once I've bought a multistrada in a year or so's time, and spent 2-3 years with it, I reckon I'll be about ready for one of these :D And they'll actually be affordable by then!

Price is on the KTM website, £15,999. Ouch :(

May have to wait a few years before getting one of these.

..and that's before you've spec'd any powerparts..

Well it is an XR and Multistrada rival, they've put it right between the two price wise.

Or panniers (they're a powerpart too). The price is right for the competition, I think there's a new top dog on the block. The multistrada pikes peak is apparently £19200, for non electric ohlins, a paint job and some carbon. Not even forged wheels like the old pikes peak

Still not sure on these bikes.
If i want a tourer/adventure bike, i'd have a nice comfy GS. If i want to have fun, i'd have a superbike or super naked of some sort. Slamming the two together? Not convinced yet.

Hell, with this it was a super naked to begin with. Love the Super Duke R, mental bike. But not what i would want to put a screen on and luggage. Then... that price...

love my ktm 990 smt, just about does everything and is just bags of fun while doing it. I've had it strapped up with hard panniers, topbox and tank bag with full camping kit doing power wheelies and small jumps up dodgy b-roads. It's just the kinda stuff that neither a superbike or full tourer can really do.

This thing is in the same group as all the other current superbikes in it's ability to make you lose your license, and if you aren't riding it like that then what's the point in having all that power?

Hopefully they bring out another version with less power and electrics to replace the 990 smt they stopped making years ago.

The thing with these bikes, the multistrada, s1000xr, superduke GT etc, is that you don't need a big tourer and a fast naked bike in the garage as they do the job of both.

For me, I want something that you can go for a Sunday morning thrash on or pose at box hill, and then can take a pair of hard panniers and some camping kit and waft down to the Alps in comfort for a week away.

Normal naked bikes are compromised in terms of comfort over long distance and luggage carrying, and big tourers like the GS aren't as fun as a naked or sports for the Sunday blast. And with the longer suspension they deal with bumpy UK roads better.

There have been rumours of a middleweight KTM as they don't have anything now between the 690 and the 1190 (ignoring the 1050 adventure as that's a weird bike!)

Funnily enough the KTM 990 SMT is on my list to try, but the soft luggage is a bit of a downer, proper luggage needs an unsightly extra rack.

I've got a kit where the frame comes off when not using hard panniers, it only leaves a couple of small mounts on the bike. Really quick to do it as well.

To be honest, I'll probably do what I did with the Watercooled GS and the XR - go for a test ride and then realise how great my current bike is again!

The GS is still a quick bike, with a decat and power commander it makes impressive instant drive and will accelerate with a sports bike at legal speeds. 95% of the time it does everything I want, but just occasionally I want to get that 'arms out of the sockets' acceleration from a bonkers bike.

The ZX12R was the bike bike I've owned for that impression of 'this bike shouldn't be legal!'. The GSXR1000 I had afterwards, whilst faster A-B, never quite had the same mentalness

Exactly what the BMW dealer said to me when I bought the XR, 'Once you've had a GS you won't turn back'. Watching the 1000ps YouTube review of the XR/KTM/Mulstistrada they all said they'd have the GS at the end..

from 10:25 on.

The thing with these bikes, the multistrada, s1000xr, superduke GT etc, is that you don't need a big tourer and a fast naked bike in the garage as they do the job of both.

But they don't appear to do that, it's half of each, a go-between if you will. In fact the review above seems to capture the point i'm trying to make regarding the GS.

The Multistrada, that's an odd bike, need to ride one again as i still can't put my figure on what's right and wrong about it lol, not in a bad way! The engine and the way i sat on it just felt, odd.

The GS isn't 'special' enough for me - I'd want some sparkly bits on my weekend bike, whether that's ohlins/WP suspension, carbon, forged wheels etc..

If I got a GS I'd use it for commuting and euro trips but I'd still want a 'special' summer weekend bike, but then the mileages I'd be doing on each bike would be out of whack, 2-3000 miles on the summer bike and 10k+ on the GS, whereas a commuter and a multistrada/superduke gt would see 8000 miles on the commuter and 5000 miles on the weekend bike.

Yeah, that's where I am with the GS. It's a workhorse - good at everything really and it's been ultra reliable, but I kind of miss that pampering I used to do when I had a sports bike! I've only washed the GS about 4 times all year!
