Hello All,

I'm thinking about upgrading the GPU of my 4-year old desktop. The current specs are:
-Nvidia GTX 570
-i7 2600k @ 4.5 GHz
-ASUS P8Z68 V-Pro (1155)
-CoolerMaster HAF 922
-8GB RAM

I'm tending towards the GTX 970 and would just like confirmation that this card would be compatible with my current system and is not likely to create any problems. At present, I'm not interested in upgrading my MOBO or CPU as it would not be cost-effective for me to do so. Advice is appreciated! Cheers :)

970 will be fine with that setup. A 2600k @4.5ghz is still a pretty powerful cpu for gaming.

Your setup matches mine exactly with a 970, down to the choice of motherboard :)

No issues for me whatsoever at 1440p at medium to high settings (some games are averaging 40-45 on ultra which is a bit too low for comfort...at least in multiplayer), and lets face it, most of the current crop of Gameworks games can be easily adapted to run on the 970 without one or two extremely perfomance-intensive options being enabled, and still providing 80-90% of the quality of maxed out settings.

Hardware lasts a crazy amount of time these days! The 2600K come out in early 2011...how much faster is the latest i7 quad than one of these, almost 5 years later?

@setter That rig sig, much jell :(

My rig based around a 3770k hasn't given me any urge to upgrade, used to upgrade the entire rig every 3 years but now there is just no need. But there are other things to spend money on so...:)

I do have a 970 coming today to replace my 570 though :D

Thanks.:)

As an ex 3770k owner, I can say its still a great cpu. The addition of a 970 will set it of nicely.

Just changed from a 2600k @ 4.5 GHz with a 580 to a 970.

Works perfectly. To be honest I think the CPU will still be good for a few years to come, it doesn't seem to be fully used with even the 970 so far.

3770K and 970 is giving me 60fps with almost everything on top settings on GTAV and 1920x1200.
Fallout 4 is straight to 60 with default fully maxed settings, though I did lower God Rays before starting due to hearing stories about it crippling performance with no clear gains.

Happy! (for now! :))
