Anyone else use the media player for music while playing a game?

It used to just load up a USB tab on the homescreen which worked perfectly. But they put the media player on a while back and the USB tab no longer appears.
However, the media player is pretty useless.

There doesn't seem to be any way to play the next album in the folder when the current one ends - I have to go into the media player menu - and to do that it forces you to close the game...?
So it can have both open at once but you have to start the music before the game as you can't access media player while in a game....seems kind of pointless!!

It used to work perfectly fine until they changed it.

I think they merged them into the media player, but I use spotify to play music when playing (but seems I only do this for driveclub currently ) , I got a survey a few weeks back from Sony asking questions on how to improve media playback, so hopefully Sony are working on a better media app.

I think they threw that app up on the store to just get something out there, as I agree, its mostly a hopeless app.

Put a 2TB drive in my PS4 last night, super simple to do, only issue I ran into was that for some reason my Bloodborne cloud save was two months out of date so I had to throw the old drive back in to rescue it, all great now, cable is getting a hammering downloading everything again though :)

Agreed, super easy but like you I hammered my internet connection dowloading all my games again.. worth it though. did mine months ago, so much easier then having to juggle games around.

Problem is, it'll eventually run out I guess.. But 2TB is a lot of storage. But with games being 30GB + on average nowadays no wonder the stock 500Gb isn't big enough

Spotify on PS4 works whilst in game in case you didn't know.

I guess I need to look at Spotify then. I've been told before to sign up to it!
I need to get on there and see if they have what I listen to - my tastes can be pretty out there but I'm sure they have at least a large amount of it.

Interesting that they are looking at feedback on it. For me, just being able to skip or let it run over to the next folder would be nice! Or being able to access it without closing the game down.
I didn't get why you could load it up, then leave it running while playing a game...but to then re-access the already open app you have to close the game. I thought I was doing something stupid for a while!!! ;)

Sony ran a promotion for a while where you got Spotify for 99p for three months. I've used the service for two months so far, and i've found pretty much every single artist and their tracks I could ever need. Its a fantastic service, shame its £9.99 a month.. But, you can use the free service but then the audio quality drops and you get adverts every third or so track...

The media app needs much work. Its quite amazing to me that I can run Spotify and Playstation movies on my PS4, but I also have a collection of MKV's and the media app is so poor, its not worth my time, yet Plex is chargable on PS4 yet free on my Sony smart TV. Best yet, Playstation movies, Plex and youtube (google movies) work fine on my Sony TV yet no Spotify. They shut down playstation music, yet Sony haven't bothered to update the music app for my smart TV.

My quest for a single unit to do everything is now at the stage where I either pay for a plex pass or have to use my Smart TV - but then if I want to play music on my TV via my Amp, PS4 needs turning on again... Oh well, one day it'll all be one lol

I also upgraded mine other night with a 2TB samsung, prepared my backups of my save games to cloud and USB before i got the HDD, most of my games are on disk so only had to download all the patches.
I used the same usb for the save games and 3.11 firmware, had no problems at all, and installing the new HDD also cured my rebuilding datebase i had with my old 500gb which kept flashing up each time i booted into my PS4.

Which 2TB drives would you recommend for this? Been thinking of swapping mine out.

The Seagate Expansion 2TB, it was down to £54 a few days ago.

It has the Samsung M9T inside. Easy enough to pull the case apart, don't remember if there were any screws, just glue. Put the original 500GB back in the case and re-use.

The bare HDD on it's own is more expensive.

Was about to post the same, I used a Samsung 2TB external drive, you can use the caddy afterwards with the 500GB drive for any other purpose so worth doing.

When you say that it's easy to get the drive out of the caddy, would that be the case for a real hamfist like myself?? Would hate to damage the drive getting it out!!

I am thinking about doing this pretty soon.

I just did the upgrade to 2TB this morning on my new PS4.

As long as you don't mind scratching the caddy then it is quite easy to get out. You just need something thin enough and strong enough. A penknife would do but I was a bit worried about it bending. I used a Gerber Shard to pry it open in the end.

I bought the: Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch External Hard Drive.
The older version with the smooth outside is connected by clips, I think I ended up snapping some in the end but it should go back together with the 500GB drive inside..

Alternatively if you're worried you can spend only a little bit more and buy the same drive without the caddy.

Got Destiny updating and I need to get hold of PS+.

Did the same when i did it, few little scratches on the outside and a snapped clip or two on the inside. But once i put the 500gb from the PS4 in and closed it back up it's barely noticeable.

I used this http://imgur.com/a/9giKA and other than the case being a bit different it shows you step by step with pictures.
