ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

I surmise that if a part failed state like Syria bordered China and ISIS were giving China friction, China would steamroller the country no quarter given. Human rights? just a spike in China's yearly executions.

It's not entirely right, but sometimes I think it would take a monster like China and it's dubious regard for human rights to smash ISIS's main body and quell them, at least for a while.

This could be the best option. ISIS is dealt with and we get to "strenuously object" to China's actions.

I see BBC are now stating that guns were bought on the black market in Belgium. Question is - do you treat those that passed on the guns as collaborators and extremists?

I know it's almost impossible to trace guns on the black market, but if caught..

Keeping their track record in mind, I would rather be 100% sure. Let's just say it would be even more ignorant to take Iraq at its word than the West.

Not that I agree with how the war / post-war was handled of course...

In hindsight, Its clear that both sides were disingenuous. The political outcome may have been totally different if Blix had been allowed to complete the mission. Was anything ever found? If you listen to the background noise about the Iraq war and why it happened, WMD's are rarely mentioned.

Worked out good for Blair though, its hard to hear the haters from behind double glazed limousine windows.

You aren't getting it. Their sole purpose is to bring about WW3 and the end of the world. If they could pull N Korea into this they would without even blinking.

End goal: ISIS's sole purpose is to have the worldwide population follow their Calepeh. I can see your point that their religious leaders would simply state "better in the next life" and attempt to bring WW3 in a defeat game.

NK's goal is to prevent any form of information impacting rule. So if a bomb exploded there then NK would simply blame random people, round up any survivors + any people they don't like, shoot them. Internal PR would be Leader saves country and defeats ISIS. Externally they'd not bother stating there's no ISIS. It's highly unlikely they're going to engage in Syria using their own forces.

Yep, a country that would probably go no holds barred on an enemy. And something I admire about china despite their very poor record on human rights. Unlike the old user, china has never tried tried to export communism.

Well, it only happened 5 days ago and even says in the article

Even after dealing this blow to the ISIS bank roll, the U.S. is drawing criticism for not targeting the Islamic State oil trade sooner.

So they weren't doing.

Also, just to show how ****ed up this world really is, ISIS aren't just destroying these ancient sites we hear about, they are ransacking and looting them first for all the antiquities and selling them on the black market.

And who is the biggest purchaser of these stolen artifacts? Amercia...who through this are directly funding ISIS with an estimated $100 million a year.....you couldn't make this **** up....

Lads 170 hostages taken in Mali according to the BBC. Looks like Islamists hit a hotel.

Gunmen have launched an attack on the Radisson Blu Hotel in the centre of Mali's capital, Bamako. Two people have locked in 140 guests and 30 employees in "a hostage-taking situation", the hotel's owners said in a statement. Police have surrounded the hotel, which the gunmen entered shooting, and shouting "God is great!" in Arabic, a security source told Reuters.
