Driving 55 years on a provisional licence

I know somebody who's mother drives to work at a motorway service station of all things in a battered old Corsa with no license and she's too scared to go above second gear. Really not sure how she gets away with it.

I'm seeing the OP's point a bit. The article is trying to say that driving around on a provisional for 55 years is illegal and dangerous, whereas in actual fact it could be a perfectly legal and perfectly fine way to drive, providing he is accompanied at all times by a suitable passenger.
