Hi guys currently looking at the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 OHM version.

I'm wanting these primarily for music and gaming. I'm looking for really immersive sound and the reviews on these look great!

Just looking for some owners feedback on these cans please. I will be running these through a sound blaster Z but can upgrade if needed, was looking at the Fiio E10K but if the sound blaster is fine i will continue using that :)

I listen to a lot of classic rock and metal and love all games from world of Warcraft to Battlefield 4.

Alternatively i was looking at the AKG 612 but apparently the bass is lacking and isn't as immersive...

Hope someone can help. Many thanks

I've got the K612's and the bass isn't anything great. It's there, and it's fine really. But I prefer a bit more boom than it gives. Also bear in mind it needs a pretty decent amp.

I did consider the DT990's but was put off by complaints of the treble hurting peoples ears.

In the end I've settled on buying a pair of Fidelio X1's which are superb, and now moved onto X2's and selling the X1's.

Awesome stuff appreciate that. I cannot find the Philips Fidelio X1 online to buy anywhere. Was maybe hoping to get a second hand pair somewhere but can't find them

My X1's are listed on a famous auction site, as well as the K612's...

I have owned DT990s for several years but they have spent the last couple in their box in the cupboard because I use my Sennheiser HD650 and AKG K702 instead, which should say a lot.

For music I mostly use my HD650s as their beautifully lush and rich mids really make vocals shine. There is plenty of bass, although it's not the fastest but certainly more than the AKGs but not quite as much as the DT990s. The highs are rolled off, making the HD650s sound extremely smooth, relaxing and miles short of sibilance. In comparison I find the Beyers to have oodles of bass, very little in the way of mids and harsh, sibilant highs, which can lead to fatigue rather quickly.

For Gaming I use my AKG K702s, which don't didn't have as much bass as the DT990s but do have great mids and excellent highs, except for a couple of spikes which are easy to bring under control with a little EQing. I've modded mine by removing a couple of sticky pads from inside the back of the cups which adds quite a lot of bass, a lot of it in the sub-bass region, which has improved my enjoyment no end. So they not only sound better than the DT990s in the mids and the highs but they also now have stronger and more detailed bass than them too and all it took was a tiny, very simple, reversible mod.

The downside of my upgrades to the HD650 and the AKG K702 is that they need more powerful amplification than the DT990s, which were fine with the Sound Blaster Z. For £90 though, you can get the PowerColor Devil HDX sound card which is plenty powerful and has STX level sound quality.
