Unwanted telephona calls - Sudden incease..

Switch to mobile only?

I managed to kill 99% of these calls by letting the person talk and pretending I'm interested then asking how they got my number and politely asking if they could remove my information from their system.

It actually worked, just be nice to them :)

Maybe just called ID. You don't need much, I'd double check if I were you.
Already have, as stated, any changes to my current plan will result in a new 12 month contract coming into effect.
I do not want this as i'll be moving the whole service over to vonage when the fibre goes live next month.

How long do you have?

I am waiting on Gigaclear to send me the cable I have to install between the box they put in the ground outside my boundary and my house and for them to then switch the service on.
The digging and laying outside my boundary is done and dusted.
They have moved about a mile up the road at the moment, still digging the main cable in by the looks of it.
Officially they've stated "before Christmas"

I've had five calls since 8:35 this morning. :(

When your Gigaclear goes live, port your BT number to a VoIP provider if you're that bothered about keeping the number. This will give you a ton more routing options (e.g. binning calls with withheld numbers, building up a blacklist of known bad numbers, call recording etc.)

Yep that is the plan, I think I am just going to have to suffer the incessant indians for another month or so. There doesn't seem to be anything else I can do.

Can't believe people deal with this in 2015; it's so easy to activate a whitelist on decent phones so that only contacts can call you, or just block withheld/international numbers.

You have to register with TPS every year and even then it is overruled if you've given your number to a company directly.

Really? Coz I did it a 2nd time with the same number a few years down the line, and the form error'd out saying that the number is already registered.

We threw our house phones. We use Mobile only now

Yeah, I just had a mobile when I left home and rented. Then got my own house, kept the same phone/number and went with NTL/Virgin for internet (as BT etc would have incurred a line rental).

I no longer have a phone plugged in, if i want to make a call i plug one in
If emergency etc people who need to contact me can on my mobile
That's the only way i could stop the nuisance calls

Seems 9/10 calls we get now are cold callers/autobots."In my day... People used to call for a chat!"

Best solution we have found without having a caller display is to just stay silent for the first few seconds, if its a recording it will often drop when it doesn't hear any response.

Or if its an actual person (usually Elvis from Microsoft kindly wanting to help fix my PC) I yell at my girlfriend to get back in her cage, seems to end most conversations. :D
