I've got my next build parts list all sorted and now I'm pondering the cpu cooling system. I'm not planning on overclocking soon, but saying that, if I did, well I might as well be prepared prior to the build stage. Now I've always had success with the i7920 and i7930 running Corsair H50 and H70 with push/pull config and never had any problems with them. So closed loop is very appealing but given that I can fit pretty much anything into the Primo case I have a lot of options. The thing that turns me off a bit is the extra maintenance that is required (and cost) in running a full water loop. So I thought I might open the question up on here and get advice and help (like I always have) ...
(1)should I stick with a smaller closed loop radiator and dual fans in push pull eg Corsair Hydro H110i GT

(2)should I go with say a larger system and be done with it with say OCUK W16
If I do either I want to get it right first time and be done with it without performance or quality being sacrificed.
your thoughts please ...

Personally, with this case, I'd say go for the full loop. I have the case, and the thing is huge. It's not really needed unless you want a full loop.

With the cost of the case, it seems like a bit of an over spend if you're just using a closed loop in it.

Maintenance wise, I perhaps have to 'undust' my rads twice a year. But, I have a total of 18 fans so it does draw in dust :p

It's a great case though, and would fully recommend it if you're willing to spend the money.

Well, it was a while ago that I built mine, so the fines details have become a distant memory, but I have a 480 rad at the top, pushing air out, and a 360 rad in the base drawing air in.

Then, there's 2 fans in the front drawing in, with two at the rear pushing out. Its a little overkill really, but its good to know its being used to it potential.

Everything is connected to a fan controller in one of the bays, so its all pretty much silent. And given the amount of fans and case design, there isn't much point running any of the fans at anywhere near full speed as it doesn't really affect the temps. It basically gets rid of heat on the lowest settings. Maybe a 5 degree difference max vs min.

That's housing 3 r290s, with the rads as mentioned, with a full fat motherboard, so as you can see, space isn't an issue. It really is a huge case.

wow .. nice .. I'd only be doing the cpu thought (at the moment) ...
so I think a 480mm up top with fans in push/pull should see the job done ...
now .. parts .. ??

hmmm so cooling for the cpu (even overclocked) would be relatively easy and a 480 by itself will easily do the complete job with a push/pull arrangement... I have until Wednesday to come up with a parts list for the cooling .. so far the list is:
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo

Mobo: Asus Maximus VIII Extreme Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 EATX Motherboard

CPU: Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail

Cooling: OcUK Tech Labs W16 Watercooling Kit 480
EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy EVO - Full Nickel
XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir/Pump Combo V2
EK Water Blocks EK-CoolStream PE 480 (Quad)
Mayhems X1 Clear Premixed Watercooling Fluid 1L
Primochill Primoflex Advanced Tubing 16/11 - Red

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980Ti G1 Gaming 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
(OR SLI???)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B32)

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit DVD - OEM

SSD: 4 X Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E500B/EU)
How's that sound??

480 to cool a CPU :) however if your just going for looks why not.

EK rad umm there are better.
DI water is all you need with some Nuke
Probably better with a tube res, but again personal taste.
Windows 10 Stalker :) no thanks.
Samsungs are ok.

But it's really all down to what you like.

ok so with a bit of revision how about this:

CPU Block EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy EVO - Full Nickel
Pump & Reservoir Option XSPC D5 Photon 270 Reservoir/Pump Combo
Radiator EK-CoolStream RAD XTX (480)
Coolant Choice Mayhems Pastel - Red Coolant 1L
Tubing Colour Primochill Primoflex Advanced Tubing 16/11 - Red

hows that sound

All pretty good, but no need for coloured tube with Dye water.

13/10 you may find a better tube size. more flex for bends.

Rads, tried lots of brands over the years tend to use Alphacool or Hardware Labs, most brands are just Chinese made, bit like most things these days :)
