It's coming to ten years on this forum...

I had a shock the other night when it registered that the noisiest part of my set up is now my external drives.
A supposedly quiet external drive is louder than the 7 assorted fans in my system, how things have changed :)

What fans are you using?

I did join in 2002 but not sure what happened then as i think the place got nuked! lol

OcUK has always been my 'main' place to visit. Even though, compared to most, my post count is low. Some great people on here and ALWAYS awesome help and advice regarding PC related stuff. Plus, the store is a great place to buy from!!

Ah the early days of Globalwiin 802's, CPU's on a slot and modem dialup.

16 years for me.

Ditto, i bought the OCUK modded one with 2 fans on the side and 2 on the top, also had a FOP38 CPU cooler with the screaming delta fan on it.

I've spent an awful lot of time on here. A lot more time reading than posting, and even more time spending money...

I would think a fair few of us remember the previous forum as well.

I joined on the 1st November 2002:)

Indeed, I remember having a 60mm delta at 6000rpm for a while before I 7volted it. Now I raise an eyebrow at anything over 600rpm!

External drives are on an automated timer now, they only come on once a week to backup - noisy things they are :D

at 45 years my perception or observation of time is about 60% faster than my memory of hearing seconds ticks by on my watch when i was 15.

External drives are so last year...Now its all about the cloud...Completely silent.

I'm not trusting the cloud with a lot of my data ;)
Also I tend to use one of the external drives for part of the media selection on my Plex server.

Koolpc:
Mainly the ones that came in my Antec P280 (mk2) case, they're dual speed 120 & 140 from memory* set to low, and an Noctura NH-U12S cooler.
It's pretty much whisper quiet, something I've aimed towards for years but could never justify the cost of water cooling.
Even in the summer the CPU doesn't get too warm, and unless I'm gaming the GPU fan is pretty much silent as well.

*I think I added an Antec tri speed 120mm fan in the front.

Your internet is 100% reliable? Never had an outage?

^^

I have 2x microservers....on 24/7 mirroring all my data ...any critical data is backed up to the cloud...

If one server fails the other one takes over...I think I have a robust solution :)

I have file history on main PCs and the location saved to a directory on the server..

I can access both from an Internet connection or mobile internet connection from any device..

+1 about time going faster as you get older. 2015 wasn't a brilliant year for me, but all the same - where the hell did it go?!

What about membership lengths on other famous web site e.g. Facebook and Twitter? They gotta be sites that you are still using today. So if you made a Friends Reunited account in 2001 and no longer use it, then that doesn't count!

For me:

eBay - nearly 15 years
deviantART - 7.5 years
Gmail - 9 years
GameFAQs - 12 years (but hardly use it)
Steam - 5 years

I lurked for about 2-3 years before joining, and no lie;

- I never knew there was any other forum than sports section
- I never knew this was a shop

After I discovered GD; well it all went downhill after that!

:cool::eek::confused:
