4K 40 inch or 34 inch super wide?

I had the Philips 40" 4K but returned mine the picture was average at best and the PWM is an issue for some. I have tried so many monitors recently and they have all had their issues. I have also had many issues with DP on 4k monitors many would drop to 30hz and need resetting etc tried various cables non would solve the issues

Had mine for over 6 months and never had an issue with display connection giving me 60hz... ;)
I changed the setting to 1.2 ONCE when I first set it up... Never needed to touch it again and have always booted fine into 60hz... :)

No idea what you were doing/using to create that problem?

Never had any PWM problems myself and I find the picture quality is really excellent. Also it's a PC monitor and not a TV so input lag is acceptable for casual gaming...

Personally a TV with 28ms lag would be not to my liking...

What a cocieited post.

I shared my opinion and experience but you felt the need to defend your electronic device purchase, sad.

According to TFTcentral the lag on your display is measured at 24ms, hardly much a of a difference from 28ms. ;)

The screen showed a total average display lag of 24.0 ms as measured with SMTT 2.

Yes of course you are, but that's not exactly what you did though is it.

Yes that's exactly what I did... Added my opinion and experience.

I also questioned what it was you were using/doing to cause problems with multiple monitors when connecting via DP as you seem to have a recurring problem very few report upon for a single monitor experience...

Seems to me that your using or doing something that may be causing this?
Seems a reasonable assumption to me...

Dodgy DP connection on your GPU?
Dodgy cable?
Dodgy settings?

Surely it can't be due to bad luck when the problems replicated trying multiple monitors...

It's advertised as 3ms but tests about 21ms going by this review...

Lower is always better still... ;)

Its still been recorded at 24ms, I could understand if you were using a panel that had a sub 5ms response time. Point being if your happy with a display that performs around the 24ms range then why would a panel with a 28ms be much different. Seems fairly comparable to me.

IMO a DP connected dedicated PC monitor at 21ms is always going to be better than a dedicated television via HDMI at 28ms...

(Actually that's what this TV's claimed as?... whats it really test at? That would be interesting also... Model number?)

If you dig on Ebay there are some small run PC monitors from S. Korea that are IPS/VA panels paired with PC scalers that have DP/HDMI UHD 60Hz and Chroma 444. They look like TVs at first until you see in the specs that they don't have any sort of tuner electronics.

The one I have which has been superseded got a bit of cult following though it came with a reflective glass front, which everyone removed, and PWM back lighting, upgraded to non-PWM in later models.

That actually swayed me towards a 21:9 34" as I was struggling to use all the real-estate and just found it easier to use two windows side by side on the 21:9 outside of gaming. I tended towards a borderless 21:9 on the 40" as well as I could get decent frame rates rather than the full UHD.

Very temporary setup below while I was deciding between the two. I've since replaced the 40" with a basic HP 1080 21.5" for monitoring etc.

Well my 40" Philips BDM4065UC is on its way now that the price is the lowest I've seen it at £516.

It'll be here tomorrow and I can't wait to see what FO4 looks like on it.

This thread got me looking at them too... they are £415 over here... sounds like a bargain to me.

I'm really tempted to try one out... only thing is - you don't get the ability to return items as easily as you do in the UK - it'll be a 10% restocking fee if I don't like the backlight.

Hmmm... decisions...

Also... 40" will probably be huuuuuge... I had 3x Dell 30" screens at one time, that was bonkers.

I'll raise you bonkers and give you insane! Not my set up but that's 3 40" in surround.

I have just bought one off a work colleague for £300 :)

Havent yet decided if I will use it with my gaming PC (980TI+4790K), or as my general workstation PC screen in which case Ill need to buy a new graphics card, but looking forward to using this a lot.

On the fence with this one myself. I normally run 3 x monitor setup as when im gaming i like to browse etc on the other two.

If I got one I would no doubt have to keep one of my monitors, not sure i could get away with using just one!

I only game really, WoW, D2, bit of DayZ etc so i suspect will be suitable for that running on a gtx970 (I may grab another). Suppose my real gripe is should I just grab 2 x 27" or this + one/two of my own
