Lord's Prayer cinema ad snub 'bewilders' Church of England

It's certainly not offensive and I have no objection to it being shown.

Maybe they should also ban any Christmas adverts as Christmas is a Christian Festival celebrating the birth of Christ. But wait, that delivers the business from lack of advertising revenue so can't offend. ;)
Some might be offended?, apparently xmas has nothing to do with Jesus Christ, people who labeled themselves Christian hijacked a pagan festival with its customs and traditions and turned it into a christian religious observance. CoE is fake?

very likely yes they do act as a kind of subsidy.

as movie attendance drops expect more ads.

The irony being that this will just serve to push even more customers away :p

I'm curious as to what exactly the church were trying to achieve by this advertising - it's not like someone is going to suddenly find god whilst sat in the cinema (unless he was hiding under one of the chairs :p).

Actually, come to think of it, it would be highly amusing for someone to stand up in the middle of the advert yelling "hallelujah, praise the lord!" in a gospel singer-esque voice :p

The adverts probably work better than we think or like to admit tbh. While they probably only bag the odd mug every week, i think the idea is just to put religion as an option into peoples minds again. Obviously normal, stable, happy and satisfied human beings wont be affected but if you are in a desperate place (for whatever reason) then all it takes is an overhanging thought of religion to tip you towards giving faith a go. I suppose people usually ignore this stuff but in a cinema its pretty hard to escape a 30m projector screen in front of you and its the sort of place where there is little else distracting you (you turned your phone off, people generally talk little during adverts in cinema), really its an ideal time to force people to watch an advert they normally wouldn't want to watch :D.

As being Islamophobic is considered racist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamophobia, can being Christianophobic not be considered to be the same?

Note: Christianophobic is completely made up by me and is just as ridiculous as Islamophobic.

Edit: Its actually a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Christian_sentiment

Fearing Christians is an irrational fear as it's been a fair few centuries since the Christians went around wiping out non-Christians.

Fearing Muslims isn't an irrational fear as there's a whole bunch of them that are to wipe out non-Muslims at this very moment.

Star Wars fans use the force and have no time for hockey religions and prayer.

I've yet to find a person who enjoys the ads in the cinema, so, yeah, if there were more ads, I reckon it would put more people off

I misread from the quote, sorry. I thought you were saying that the decision not to show the ad would put people off. My bad :)

Not the thread to debate this subject but that is most definitely not true. There has been incidences of ethnic cleansings by Christian groups in the last few decades.

There is such thing as Christian terrorism, it is just that Christianity is rarely associated with terrorism in this decade.

Back on topic:

I don't believe this advert has anything to do with pleasing one group or another and their policy is there so as to not associate with anyone in case it is controversial.

Although i said i like the adverts, i am getting sick of seeing more screen time of Kevin Bacon in adverts than i do in films.

As being Islamophobic is considered racist

It's not racist. That's a common misconception. You can't leave or join a race. It's a manipulation used by some to seek special treatment. Criticising Islam is justifiable given what many of them believe and what some of them do. Dawkins explains it here:

No it isn't racist but saying what many of them believe is misleading. There are over 2 billion of them but if you take how many of them genuinely believe in the cause of the terrorists it is a small fraction comparatively. If you want to broaden the belief part to include people who are not willing to participate in any of the violence but agree that non believers are shunned by their god for whatever reason and are therefore evil, then you can apply that to most religions.

I fear this discussion is going off topic and will result in another anti-Muslim debate. Considering OP does not mention it, i think its best to keep any discussions about Muslims in this thread relevant i.e. whether the minority groups are offended or whether they should have as much right (or as little) to try and use an advert.

I want to see Charles Dance reading out lyrics of modern pop songs in front of a cosy fire before a film.

Is there a way to arrange this?

I have no problem with the no religious or political advert policy. It's just the claim that it offends people I think is daft.

The Up-Side is I don't have to watch Nigel Garage grinning at me though his pint, while muttering something about the EU either.

Haha, didnt see your post, but i am sure we are all sick of him.

I don't know who this Nigel Garage geezer is and i dont want to know, you can tell to **** off where he came from!

It's hard to see how people would be offended by this and not just ignore it or even miss it as they enter the cinema late to miss most of the adverts.

I've probably been back and read my old post at least twice and not noticed that typo. Fresh pair of eyes and all that...

Edit: may have posted that on my phone. Pesky predictive text!

That's true actually. I would be offended at having his giant smug smashable xenophobic toxic face leering at me, so given that the stance covers religion and politics it is a good thing.

"offended" nothing happens when you're offended ...grow up..your an adult...deal with it :)
