A what "family" car thread.....

How many kids do you have?

Maybe go and show her the space that an octavia VRS or BMW estate has compared to an SUV? And show her how much more practical an estate car is?

I know it's tenuous...

This thread has got Golf R written all over it - surely it's by far and away the best choice and whilst you discounted the estate, I think it looks lovely and fills literally every single roll surely?

Would an estate not be better than an SUV?

All the guys I know who have bought a Qashqai have hated it and said that actually once you put just a stroller in you pretty much have no space for anything else. But then again their wives loved it :/

Did you see my post above, definitely echo what the guys you have spoken to say.

We have a Bugaboo Buffalo, once folded up there is little room to get anything else in the car...when I put it in the A4 Saloon, just takes up half the boot space so plenty left for shopping bags etc.

Wife still loves it!

Again was the wife who discounted the estate. :p I think it looks decent.

May just give up and let her get the cheapest company car instead of car allowance and then look to get something vaguely interesting for a second car.

Also its not so much the space for storage that is her issue, its the space for rear passengers.

Your wife needs a telling off :p

Frustrating really, technically it would be her company car. However, usage for business would be 1%(gets the train into London), her using it at other times would be about 10% and then I would be driving it 89% of the time! I do all the family driving because I generally enjoy driving while to her its just a tool.

Will continue wearing her down. :p

Get a 535d, or a GT. Those are very good value for money as nobody wants one, and they're somewhat SUV-like. Maybe you can convince your wife!

That I agree with, my dad has one and was looking to upgrade and they seem to be worth very little. Under 20k get you a lot of car for very little money with a good engine.

Having a look at a 335d xDrive M Sport (GT), apparently fairly roomy in the back and there is a pretty decent lease deal on them at the moment.

Sadly its a diesel(petrol versions are much more expensive) but hopefully these modern BMW engines are not too tractor like.

Whlist not in the 335d M Sport league, can't fault my Octavia vRS estate for the last 2 years. Dog, 2 kids etc, interior holding up fine, car has had zero issues. It's not rapid by a long shot but it shifts fine when I need it to and that someone coming from a 530D M Sport auto that I had for 5 years.

Plenty left over for a SUV if you need another car
