Picked up a pair of Grip Grab Windsters recently, took them off part way through their first outing as my hands were getting too warm but they worked well enough out in freezing winds on Saturday.

Can't vouch for their waterproof qualities yet but will be able to test them soon I expect.

Depressing video, depressing comments, depressingly moronic people in the world.

Not feeling great this morning and haven't felt particularly awesome for a few days. I seem to be moaning about being ill constantly at the moment. Wondering if I've turned into an old man without realising it.

edit: I've not listened to the audio (in work) but hopefully there are no swearies in it. Forum rules and all that...

Good to hear, I have some Gripgrab short fingered which where ok but they stretched after they got wet and are now a rubbish fit.

HTFU? :p

Take a few rest days mate, it'll be illness/virus/fatigue related. This time of year with the rapid temperature changes stress our bodies more than any other.

I reported the video twice and both times Facebook told me it wasn't in violation of community standards. One can only reasonably assume that community standards are very low.

So I got my new Bont shoes. My old ones are a 48, the new ones are a 47. Their site said I was a 47 one foot and a 47/48 the other.

If it's hot they are a tiny bit small, if it's cold they are perfect....

If only they did a 47.5!

Maybe the heels will give a bit after a few rides and I'll gain a few mm, the toe area won't change as the carbon bathtub covers the toes.

Asthma nurse appointment this morning. Lungs aren't great, and never will be, but resting heart rate is about 60 and blood pressure is good, so clearly this exercise is good for something. My heart rate when I'm active goes way up, which I guess stems from the fact that my lungs struggle to keep up their end of the deal.

I was going to go out this lunchtime but it's pouring down and I just cannot be arsed with it. The rest of the week looks better, but windy. I'm hoping to get out for a long ride on Saturday, if the boss will let me, but even then it's likely to be in the rain and wind. This year really has been shocking as far as the weather is concerned.

I know this has been asked before but i am struggling to find the answer.
What is the best options for mudguards for a Giant TCR?
I have tried crud-guards but they don't fit.

Don't giant sell their own mudguards for their bikes?

Otherwise your options are p clips or selling the bike and buying one with real mounting points.

I had some issues with my Russian size headset on my track bike. The head tube is 30.4mm instead of the usual 30.2mm, the threaded section is 26x1mm instead of the usual 1"x24 and it's got a 27mm crown race which is JIS size while a lot are ISO at 26.4mm. I found the Stronglight A9 was the right stack height and alloy so I could easily re-thread the top race, and then put in a 27mm crown race. I did the old trick of centre punching the sides of the races to make them a press fit. You can see where I centre punched them to raise the surface up but it wasn't tight enough and worked itself loose again after a few rides:

I dressed them back down with a file and cut some strips of 0.1mm shim. Conveniently the shim we had at work was already 10mm wide and I gave it a curl to help it stay in place:

Home made headset press out of a bit of M8 studding and some construction kit stuff - I think you guys have seen this before :D :

You can tap a headset in carefully, but with the shim in there as well it needed to be dead square to hold it all together and not fly apart. I used plenty of grease and, amazingly, it went straight in and didn't crease the shim up. Top cup:

I don't get to try it out properly until later in the week, but I can't see why this won't work. With the centre punching, the top cup had worked so loose that I could pull it out by hand. Now it's a good press fit and there's nowhere for it to go, so hopefully it won't shift. Bit of a faff, but it does mean I haven't had to modify the bike.

Von, this is not normally an issue for me I just man up, but this year i am looking to go on some club rides over the winter and mudguards are mandatory. This might be the excuse I am looking for to order another bike N+1 and all that.

Roady said they're not very good. Get SKS Raceblade Longs (v2 for option for up to 25 wide tyres)

I noticed this morning (kept HR on after riding) that even 15/20 mins after commuting in my HR is still around 100 bpm, is that normal?

https://www.strava.com/activities/438380190/analysis

My ride this morning average HR is a little higher than normal as there was a headwind so I took the flatter route as running a few mins behind. Middle section (Whitecross) I gave it the beans a little (HR 175-180) but the longer Kings Acre exposed part I took easier (HR ~160). Fairly normal HR's for me, although much over 180 is bonk territory so usually not there for long when commuting.

One observation of mine from my longer weekend ride, the start of it (first 10 miles) my average HR seems quite high (~170) regardless of what efforts, is this excitement? Nerves? Later in the ride my HR settles down to a lower average (~160) even though I'm riding harder/hills/more efforts.

Giant Fenders or the new Giant Speedshields. Avoid. I've tried both on my Defy 1 and neither compare to the SKS Raceblade Long.

^^^This! Or PDW I've heard good things about, yet no experience with. But bear in mind you are fitting a road race bike with very tight clearances which is not designed for guard fitment. I've come to learn that they'll never be 'perfect' on a road frame with tight clearances. :(

Got an appointment next week too. First time I've noticed my asthma was on the weekends ride, some of the minor slopes at the end of the ride (the main street through Billinge and I could feel my asthma coming on, which is rare.

I think it was because it was an extremely cold day. Part of the problem is that I don't religiously take my "preventer" inhaler. The last time I saw an asthma nurse she said that a large proportion of asthma ailments could be avoided through the use of the preventer inhaler.
