ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

I think it's good that Turkey shot it down, Russia have been throwing their weight around without caring, they should know that if they cross borders, fly armed aircraft around without giving a damn - they'll lose them.

They've done it a number of times, they shouldn't be surprised tbh.

I've heard that there aren't any IS forces in that area, and Russia has spent most of it's time bombing non IS rebels in Syria, IIRC it only started going after IS targets (as opposed to Assad's other enemies) once Is blew up their passenger jet.

Where did you hear that? the BBC..

Why does it matter who Russia are bombing, If it be ISIS or some other Wahhabi extremist group they are all the same just a different name. They are all after the same goal.

Simple fact the media over here has been brain washing the people with talk of "moderate rebels" When they are asked who these "moderate rebels" are they can never name any.

Heck even if you look direct on the BBC website some of the rebel groups who they class as moderate want to set up and Islamic state.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24403003 feel free to have a read and they are always posting left wing garbage on the situation the without a true accurate account. Feel free to take some of the names of the groups and read into their real agendas. And this is before a lot of them merged with even harder line groups.

Reading between the lines in this one, it would seem the jet did violate Turkish air space, but was over Syrian air space when it was shot down. All statements, all current evidence, suggest this.

So the Turks have basically gone '**** it, we'll teach the Russians to keep pushing their luck'. I suspect they may regret that momentary lapse of sanity...

yup, the fact the jet was shot down over Syrian territory and the fact they've had various brief incursions by Russian jets in the past suggests this was a deliberate move by the Turkish govt rather than a Turkish pilot simply responding on his own initiative according to rules of engagement... they could have chosen to respond like this in the past but didn't - someone high up has decided to send a message to Russia this time... Fact is Turkey has an interest in some rebel groups fighting in Syria and Russia has been bombing more than just ISIS positions

if the jet crashed in Turkey they'd have more of an argument

*watches footage of a burning plane falling from the sky, amid "ALLAH ACKBAR, ALLAH AcKBAR being screamed in the background*

*thinks back a month or two, when Russia came on talking all tough, claiming the west had just been playing with ISIS, and Russia would take care of all of it, or whatever it was that was said.. *

So far a Russian commercial airliner, and now a figher jet have gone - maybe they'll be regretting stepping into the endless, horrific, nightmare that is the middle east..

holy crap! Sky news just played footage of what appears to be *someone* using an american made anti-tank missile, against the Russian rescue helicopter.........

Air to air missiles have a pretty long range though, up to 50km and they travelling at mach 3 it would take over 2 minutes to cover that distance. The missile could easily have been fired whilst the russian plane was within turkish airspace and not actually impacted until the plane was a couple of km back inside Syria.
