Hey there. I have a 55 plate 1.3 Yaris which I would ike to replace with something a fair bit nippier. Fiesta ST is out as I don't like the look. Looking to spend about £7-8K. Any idea's, please?

RS Clio 200 should be doable at that price.

Just about, or a Megane R26. If we're looking for Fiesta ST levels of performance though, try any of the following:
  • Citroen DS3 THP 155
  • Peugeot 208 THP 155
  • Renaultsport Twingo
  • Suzuki Swift Sport
  • Alfa Romeo MiTo Cloverleaf
  • Skoda Fabia VRS
  • Mini Cooper
  • Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost
  • Fiat 500 Abarth

Pretty much any of the above is doable for £8k without being much more than 3-5 years old, all have ~130 - 170 bhp and should qualify as 'warm' hatches. Twingo, Swift and 500 are a little smaller than the others, so it depends what you need on a space basis.

Of those, the Mini, Ford, Twingo and Swift are the best of the 'warm' hatches on a handling/fun basis.

Edit: It looks like the Ecoboost might be a challenge to get the 125 PS or the 140 PS for £8k, which is a shame.

Just to note that pretty much all of the above will be available approved-used so you'll get a decent warranty with it for at least a year.

The Suzuki swift sport is a very nice car, my wife has one. I was surprised how nippy it feels, defiantly feels faster than the 134bhp suggest. I didn't feel it felt much slower than her old Clio 197 even though it clearly must be.

You'd just about get one of the newer models (2012 onwards) for 8k, we've got ours up for sale at the moment for only a bit over 8.

Even a 1.6 focus will be warmer than a Yaris 1.3, the phase 1 yaris, was reliable, but about as dull as a very dull thing!

'fair bit nippier' is open to interpretation I suppose, but wouldn't say that an ST was 'a fair bit nippier' than a 1.3 yaris.

This has got to be the funniest thing I have read on here in a while. Unless you mean the opposite, as in the Focus ST is more than 'a fair bit nippier' than a 1.3 yaris

A 1.3 Yaris has what, 80hp? A standard Focus ST has 220hp. I'd call that 'a fair bit nippier'!

The older 1.3 petrol units are 84bhp , and the latter ones are 99bhp :)

I have a later version and compared to say to the other car that i got the Golf GT DSG which is about 170bhp , the golf is quite a bit more nippier.

The latter >2012 SSS has the 6 speed box vs the older 5 speed one which is the major difference. Also they had a few SZ special editions about as well.

I don't think nas was saying that a Focus ST isn't faster - the OP was asking for a 'warm' replacement that was 'a fair bit nippier' - just that it isn't 'warm', it's hot, and it surpasses the requirement of 'a fair bit nippier' - you wouldn't describe an ST as a bit nippier, so I think his comment was valid in questioning the suggestion.

Space requirements?
Economy requirements?
No. of door requirements?
Age requirements?
Resale value requirements?
Comfort requirements?

Give us something to go on or you'll just get lists of various hatchbacks all day long.

Also, define warm? Outright pace in the "warm" zone, i.e. 8s to 62 or thereabouts?
