Will you change your diet because of Climate Change?

Human - Two eyes front of face for binocular vision = Hunter.
Therefore Nature designed us to hunt, kill and eat meat.
End of, really...

You could argue that everyone that wants to eat meat should either hunt it or raise animals. Then you rid of intensive livestock farming. That would be more sustainable.

Completely impractical mind...

A friend of mine suggested that people that want to eat meat should have to kill an animal every so often to renew their 'meat license' (thereby putting them in touch with reality - but also relatively impractical). I'd go for that if it was the only way you could source meat though.

^ Excactly, the meat industry is out of control. We're relatively well off in Western Europe, no deforestation and few industrial units, but that doesn't mean reducing consumption is a bad idea.

And there are plans all the time to build factory farms even in the UK, e.g.

Herefordshire's idyllic Golden Valley threatened by plans to build huge broiler-chicken sheds

For a graphic of how insane the amount of livestock has become (note the green squares are all wild land mammals):

I don't consider something a meal if it doesn't contain a bit of animal in it.

My mother turned into a vegetarian for about 5 years but she's recently just came back to the fold saying 'One day I just really fancied some bacon'.

I'd be in favour of increased legislation regarding food wastage though.

This.

But how would you monitor it? Are you talking about it on a personal/family or corporation point of view, or both?

As a couple me and my partner waste virtually nothing, and it really does pain me when we do throw anything away. We are fortunate to not have children, though I suppose when we do it will be thrown out of the window. Portion control etc. must be a nightmare.

In regards to the OP though, I'd not be willing to change my diet to appease the claims of climate control. I'm already restricted enough with my IBD, any further restrictions could cause even bigger issues for me. Selfish? Very much so.

IMO solution (or at least the first step) here is to lower the production. I don't want to stop eating meat but if I go to shop and there's no meat on a shelf at the time I'd have no problem having veg for my meal that day.
I find it a bit ridiculous that there are huge amounts of meat in supermarkets most of the time. As said earlier the waste is probably huge.

I've been vegetarian for 12 years. I was never a massive meat eater anyway so it wasn't hard and i don't miss it. Therefore it's hard for me to see what the fuss is about sometimes but i can understand that people like the taste of meat, feel they need it in their lives and that animal welfare isn't a concern for some people.

As for the affects on the environment, this is still young in research and media so i wouldn't expect it to be popular at all.

Food wastage does look quite ridiculous at times, i'm not sure on the best course to tackle this though, but something should be done to bring it down. Mass supermarkets clearly one of the worst offenders.

It's not only the taste but also the health benefits of eating meats, proteins and such. Especially for people who want to get into shape. Muscle repairs et al.

I always feel much better after a hearty steak :)

I am not intending to change my diet because of climate change. Not in the slightest.

However, we have been slowly but progressively cutting our meat consumption anyway, and changing types of meat. It's more about health, though, and climate change has had no influence on it at all. Short of government banning certain products outright, I can't imagine any steps government might realistically take changing my dietary chouces either.

does livestock sector include dairy farms? If so do we need to stop producing milk from cows? I myself am lactose intolerant so I can tell you a LOT of products have milk in.
