Hi all, I got my Acer X34 yesterday and thought I'd post a few thoughts for those on the fence :)

- First off, box is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge!! Way bigger than even the 34" LG I had, and that's saying something :D

- Opened her up to find it really well packaged, and for once it was refreshing that I didn't have to assemble the stand at all. Already done

- Next up I *love* the real estate that this monitor offers, I've missed a big screen these last few weeks (came from an MG279Q via a 34" 1440p LG). Also have to say that this monitor is pretty damn good in the IPS glow/BLB department, minimal and more than acceptable to my eyes. I'm not someone who is particularly sensitive to this type of thing, but I gotta say the LG was a lot worse! No dead/lazy pixels either, had a good check earlier :)

- Another (almost pleasant) surprise was the fact that I suffer no sleep issues whatsoever, everything is as it should be (and this is a Sept build, weird!). At a guess I'd say some that do have issues have maybe taken a hard knock? All in all I'm chuffed, as I'm someone who often uses the sleep function when I'm AFK ;)

- And last but not least the gaming aspect, which is pretty much my decision for purchasing said monitor!! As said, I came from a MG279Q (however brief) and I have to say I *loved* 144hz gaming and don't think I could ever go back to 'just' 60hz. This X34 overclocks to 100hz (with no whine that I can hear), and a great experience still even though I'm not hitting 144hz any more. I'd def consider 95/100hz pretty minimal nowadays :D With the system I have I haven't really had the lows to really test out the Gsync aspect but I expect it to do me proud once I do

All-in-all I'm over the Moon with my purchase and couldn't be happier. Acer apparantly even offer an extended 5 year warranty for an extra £25 which I'm seriously considering taking out as I can see me keeping this 3+ years easily....

And one of the best things? Cool ass UW wallpaper    (forgive the state of my desk, gotta do some cable tidying!!)

PS - I know it's such a small thing, but the under monitor LED lighting is soooooooooooooo cool :o

Ughhh, I don't know if I should go for the MG279Q OR Acer XR341CKB (limited to 75hz on AMD), since you've kind of had both what would you recommend?

Basically...

2560x1440 @ 144hz

OR

3440x1440 @ 75hz

What do you think? :)

I'm using the Acer XR341CKB with a amd fury and its pretty epic, don't be put off by the 75hz, its fine

utlrawide all the way!

According to tftcentral's review, there doesn't look to be any difference between the free and g sync in terms of 75HZ VS 100HZ when it comes to motion clarity and input lag, in fact, the freesync version has less input lag:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/acer_predator_x34.htm

And the response time is about the same, slightly better for the gsync version but the maximum response time is higher.

EDIT:

Just having a look at the images, there is actually a bit of difference in "real world" usage for motion clarity but not really much tbh.

Tough decision man. The MG279Q *is* a great 144hz monitor BUT Ultrawide is just something else!! I think 75hz would be good, but I'm not 100% tbh. Old gamer has raved about his since having it...

I don't think you'll go far wrong with either tbh (but I think the fact that the Freesync range on the XR goes from 30-75hz would probably sway me. MG only does 35-90)

It's wicked man!! The MG279Q is great but I'm happy I finally made the switch

Please forgive the 70s decor, it's all getting gutted in Jan for a refurb :p

Totally different ball game of monitors. I don't think you could even upgrade now haha, everything would be a downgrade from that monitor, coupled with 2 x 980TI's!!!

So with today's deal down to £929 or there abouts a worth while buy?

Im running 5930k at 4.6ghz with 2x Evga 980ti sc's. I have the Samsung 32" at the mo which my wife has her eye on for her office.

Please could a number of people check for scan lines? A load of us early adopters are desperate to see whether it's a problem that's now fixed.

To be honest fella, im the kind of person who will enjoy it for what it is.

Unless there is a glaringly obvious defect that impacts my gaming im not going to go looking for it :)

I'm the same, I don't tend to look for problems unless they jump up at me.

How do I test for them Droj?

edit - I've just checked out the shadows on the Pendulum demo and I can't see anything untoward with OC to 100 and Gsync on. All looks normal...

Please note however that I am not using the DP cable out of the box. Also using latest 359.00 driver

I think there is a specific program for it as most ppl quote the same program when they outline theirs suffers the issue
