I game at 1080p now I think it's reasonable to expect the maxing out at this resolution these days. My 7970's are good but lack the oomph when crossfire doesn't want to work.

My options are ... Sell both 7970 and buy a single 390? The sale of the two 7970's would get me a single 390

Go mental and buy two 390's , good upgrade?

Go even more mental and get my wallet out for a 980ti
 
Yea pmc that's the 390 I'm on about do I get rid of my crossfire setup for one or get two or a Ti or just save my money!

It's a steal. I'd get one. If you want two get two.

It will hold far more value than a Ti (or Fury) will, both between now and when next year's cards launch, and once they're out. The fact you can buy two of them for far less than a Ti or about the same as a vanilla Fury should tell you all you need to know.

That's your judgement, but 2x 390 will be far faster. You should be able to increase a bunch of games to 2560x1440 using VSR and get similar if not better performance. Plus at this price the upgrade won't cost you much if you sell the 7970s.

I'm sure they'll be gone soon ...
 
I would have stuck with what you have. In the next 6 months to a year we should have proper dx12 cards on the 14/16nm process with next gen hbm 2 memory. It's not like 7970 crossfire is not potent. With the lack of multi gpu support in some big games i can see why you might not want to wait.

The gtx980ti could look like a dinosaur pretty quick with all these things combined.
