Bro wants a new console he was thinking of a Xbox as he has had em in past. He wants to play fallout 4, he likes footy manager games and I think he wanted the latest footy game. I think ps4 would give better performance and visuals and not sure what xbox offers these days, and and u don't need the net but does Xbox still have the always on net requirements? He won't be using net for console at all. He has xbmc for all his media needs on PC so doesn't need to have that as a factor.

If he does go for one will there be any good black Friday deals to go for with fo4 and latest footy game bundled with console. He's not a big gamer just plays now and then no more than a few diff games all the time so will never have more than say 3-5 games a year.

Both have pros and cons.

IMO, pick the one which has the exclusives that interest the most, or the one that his gaming buddys have.

Considering he won't be playing it online, whatever console has more of the games he likes the look of as in exclusives.

I guess, the thing is that he only really plays footy manager on the PC and probably will on a console as there are a few more choices there, and the odd footy game and he seems interested in fo4. Doubt he would play anything else except maybe a golf game.

Anyone able to list pros and cons of the two consoles or a link that has already that's up to date.

Oh and he doesn't have gaming buddies he will be playing them exclusively single player and always offline tho I'd have a game of golf or somit with him now and then maybe.

Off the top of my head and from my perspective (ignoring things that will be personal preference, such as the better pad etc)

Xbox One pros

Quieter
Pad holds a better charge
Backwards compatibility
Windows 10 streaming
External HDD support
Cheaper premium subscription

PS4 pros

The more powerful console, so multi platform games should look nicer, or if the graphics are on par perform better
Console is smaller
Built in rechargeable battery for the pad (No need for a plug and charge kit)
Quicker game installs

For me, most of the above doesn't make much of a difference. I bought both consoles so I could play the exclusives for each.

Begs the question, why wouldn't he be connecting to the net on the console? At the very least he's going to want to pull down system and game updates.

I prefer the PS4 myself.

Less faffy interface, everything just happens faster. Comparing multi platform games between the two, games look better on the PS4 and usually hold a better frame rate.

I do like the Xbox One though now they have updated the dash.

If you are someone that reads platform comparisons on places like Digital Foundry, then definitely get the PS4 or you will be left wanting.

The best thing about the Xbox for me is that the controller seems to hold a charge days, if not weeks.

You won't be disappointed either way and I would consider what platform your friends have because you will eventually dabble online whether its just to party chat or have a co-op game or two.

If you don't game on PC, then PS4 since it usually has the better version of multi-platform releases. If you're interested in exclusives, then the one whose exclusives are more appealing (neither in my case). If you do game on PC, probably neither right now. Maybe leaning a bit towards PS4 though, since some of the XB1 titles come onto PC later, like Ryse and Fable.

If you like Halo/GoW, then XB1 if you're a die hard fan and don't mind the changes and removed options (including split-screen) in Halo 5. I recommend Angry Joes review, though Halo fanboys seem to hate him for it. If you like Dark Souls like games, then PS4 for Bloodborne. It might as well be a Dark Souls spin-off. XB1 has backwards compatibility if you still want to play your XB360 games and PS4 now has PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility, but those games must be bought digital.

PS4 has a cool controller that works better than XB1 pad on PC if you have bluetooth, but above comments suggests that the XB1 pad has good battery life. I wouldn't knwo since I don't own an XB1 or it's controller.

Probotector then! :p

Nah, I had both and loved them both! I just tire of X1 vs PS4 threads, been done to death and it's boring now.

No different from the 360 vs Ps3 threads last gen...

I personally only ever had a SNES, so I had little choice but to grab all my games on SNES at the time, apart from Amiga : - )
