Looking at reviews these two seem pretty level pegging with one pulling ahead slightly for one game, and the other clawing back in another game. Is the 980 really £80 better than the 390x?

I game at 1080p and wouldn't be upgrading to more than 1440p in the next few years, if at all- Would the 4GB on the 980 be enough, and is that a proper 4GB not 3.5? (As I assume the 980 has the power to use all the VRAM so I would nore frequently get into the 3.5+ GB zone, where as this isnt so much an issue for the 970 that runs out of GHz before RAM I think?)

4gb is plenty at 1080p. Hell even 4gb is fine on my 970 w/Asus Swift 1440p G-Sync.

4GB is enough for 1080P but IMO the 980 is not worth the extra £80.

And who knows what will happen in the future with VRam usage, look at Black Ops 3, 4GB is not enough for 1080P in that game.

Agree, the 980 is just not worth the extra money. It's VRAM is already not enough for some games at 1080P, this will only get worse with time.

390X with it's 8GB and 512bit bus will last you far longer.

The 980 has always been a poor purchase, but at least last year it was the best single card so it had that going for it, but now? Pointless.

4GB is enough for 4k according to AMD ;)

I wouldn't buy a 980 today. The 980ti is just as good performance per pound but more performance. 970 is way better performance per pound.
