You offer to help yet somehow feel guilty when this happens?

Turned it on, heard a crackle, fuse blew in the plug.

Tested PSU with multimeter, now dead.

Thats the way the cookie crumbles I guess, hope they see it like that :)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Good luck with that, we all know anything that goes wrong in any way at any point after you received that machine is now going to be solely your fault.

As well as anything afterwards lol

If you fix it and give it back, you will get the guy coming to you 6 months later blaming you for the virus he downloaded trying to find porn.

Lmfao, that sounds so unfortunate, just ask him if they'd mind going halves to a new PSU with you, then install it for him.

No chance, I did nothing wrong - LOL.

What kind of windows problems? if it was system instability, reboots etc, could have been the PSU dying anyway.

That was my conclusion anyway.

Windows not booting. No idea how it got to this point.

System recovery not doing anything.

Tried to manually restore registry files, blue screen error.

HDD reported read errors on a basic HDD test.

Also, looking at some of the system/user files, they were dated 2012 indicating to me some kind of power problem had already occured over the last month or so.

I would guess at this point that PSU has been on its way put and was taking the HDD with it.

They might think twice about bugging you to fix their PC now.

Big result, me thinks. ;)

But as archer said, probably a dying PSU anyway.

Definitely do not offer to go halves on a new one, not your fault it died.
