Hi put a deposit down on a used vehicle. Hope to pick up in next week

I have a question

The timing belt needs doing at 5 years or 75k miles. It is now 5 years old but only 64k miles

Does the dealer who is selling it. Will they do it. I have asked them and are waiting on a reply regarding this. Just worried as it is due or could be a expensive repair

Just wondered due to new consumer rights act. Do they have to comply with service schedule etc

It is part of a large company this dealer

Thank you

What car / engine are you looking at, as others will be able to confirm / recommend the interval.

If the requirement is 5 years or 75k, then it is whichever comes first - i.e. it needs doing as it is 5 years old (the mileage becomes irrelevant).

As far as I know there is no change, and the dealer doesn't have to do it (as essentially servicing is not a legal requirement - merely a recommendation). Given that it's a large dealer e.g. franchise, just mention your concerns and you should be able to haggle into getting it done e.g. for a lower cost.

I'd factor the belt in as part of the price paid. Either they do it at whatever you have agreed or get them to take it off the price.

Don't mess about with timing belt intervals. It's due now!

Yup, Unless its been done and they have proof in the form of Service stamp (with wording) or invoice then it needs doing.
I would be asking for them to reduce the price by how much it would cost you to have a dealer do it, or give them the chance to do it and stamp the book.

Most Dealers will do the job, because its cheaper for them to do it than pay you to get it done elsewhere.

seems what i have read on line is not 100% accurate.
Just rang Nissan dealership in Derby, gave them the reg number and they informed me it was 72 months or 90k miles for timing belt on my model with that reg. So touch wood should be ok.

It's the same for Renault, which is exactly the same engine as the 1.5dci qashqai
