4K 40 inch or 34 inch super wide?

Well the Philips arrived, here it is on my desk mounted to bricks with a cheap wall arm from Amazon (since the stand has absolutely no adjustments):

Vs. the last monitor, a 24" BenQ TN...

OrchDX4l.jpg

It's currently limited to a whopping...24Hz! I'm using HDMI as the monitor came with DP cable and my GPU (6970) has mini DP, however even with a DP to mini-DP cable, I think my GPU is limited to 30Hz at this resolution. A new GPU is therefore next on the list.

It still looks very good visually though, especially using the calibrated settings on TFT Central's review.

I had the Philips 40" 4K but returned mine the picture was average at best and the PWM is an issue for some. I have tried so many monitors recently and they have all had their issues. I have also had many issues with DP on 4k monitors many would drop to 30hz and need resetting etc tried various cables non would solve the issues.

A friend put me onto a 40" Panasonic 4k tv which I am now using as my main PC gaming monitor and the PQ is excellent far better than the Philips plus it does 3840x2160p 1.1 @60hz 444 chroma over HDMI. I'm not a competative gamer so the input lag of 28ms is fine for me.

The HDMI connection is rock solid no more iffy DisplayPort to deal with thank goodness.

The best monitor I have owned and I've owned many. It is also great for Blu ray and consoles you can upscale to 4k which is very good or leave it as a true 1080p signal.

Interesting. I know what you mean about Diplayport on 4K.

May I ask what the model number on the Panasonic 4K TV is please? :)

Is that the Dell P2715Q? ;)

You got the same keyboard as me too it seems :D

Nope... if it was, it would be the same size as the Asus to the right of it ;)

UP3216Q :D It's awesome.

And the keyboard's great too... I had a Q-PAD MK85 for a good few years with Cherry MX Blues. Pre-ordered the Steelseries M800, but I didn't like those keys for typing - only gaming - so I gave it to a friend and ordered the RGB with reds and standard with blues.

Turns out I happen to really like Cherry MX Blue keys and the backlighting on the Corsair RGB keyboards is absolutely terrible... so I stuck with this one. I'd prefer a blue backlight, but it's a good keyboard :)

The backlighting on the M800 spoiled me though - it's really awesome :D

Drool... I have the 27 inch one. 32 inch is probably very nice to use at 100% scaling at 4K.

I thought the keyboard was a Corsair K70! My bad.

It is a K70! Suppose my typing wasn't clear enough.

I was telling you about the history that lead me to keep this keyboard :)

The QPAD drowned itself in red wine 3 or 4 too many times and didn't want to keep breathing anymore... I waited aaaaaages for the M800... turned out I didn't like it.

Tried the *K70* RGB with Cherry Reds and non-RGB *K70* with Cherry Blues... turned out I really like the blues... so I've kept this K70 :)

It's a gorgeous monitor and yes - it's just right for 100% scaling... any smaller would be too small. It's the exact same dot-pitch as a 15.6" 1080p laptop monitor... which is my perfect size... I'm really glad I didn't go for the 40" Philips, although it does seems like a great monitor... it would just have been too big (both physical size and pixel size) for me.

lol. It is getting late, so it was not clear to me. Makes sense now.

My gripes with this monitor is I do not like anything but 100% scaling so at times in programs like excel, it can be a bit too small. For browsing I just have Firefox set to 150% which works a treat.

For me an ideal monitor right now would be your monitor, for it to me HDMI 2.0 and Freesync. Displayport can be annoying. Go turn off your monitor and back on now and your window sizes will chance and icons may move :o

But apart from that. I have really enjoyed my monitor :D

£750 :D (but not in the UK, in Switzerland)

Still includes the full Europe-wide premium panel guarantee (0 dead pixels) and 3 year next business day on-site swap out.

Other reasons were more closely related on this monitor's predecessor, the 3214Q, as there aren't any reviews out there for this one. Comparatively, it seemed that the contrast ratio was better on this than the Sammy and colour accuracy marginally better on the Dell too... not much in it, so I let the contrast, connectivity and in-built card reader swing the decision for me.

Now I need to update my wallpaper collection... they're mostly 1080p :(

Ive asked this before but wanted to get clarification - does the philips 40" use a glossy screen or a slight matte?

I have a crossover 404k that supposedly uses the same panel as the philips and mine has a slight matte; wondering if the philips was a glossy display as compared to my screen.

My catleap monitor is pure glossy and easy to see the difference. matte = a slight grainy aspect especially on white, grey screens or even the blue screen of OCKers website.

Which Sammy are you referring to?

Semi glossy. It's not dull and grainy, and it's not a total mirror either. It's got a light AG coating, which works very well.

Still dont know if its the same as mine (coating wise) - mines supposedly a 1%matte coating to it.

I see a slight grain. Which Id rather have glossy like my catleap.
