Hi,

Quick question (sort of).

I have a VW Passat 2011 2.0 tdi. The other day I started her up and I could hear a hissing sound like a tire going down, checked them and they were fine. I looked underneath the car (driver side at the rear)
and I could hear it there. Took it to my local garage and they said it is my fuel pump on its way out.

I took it to a few other garages and they have said the same, all of them said you will be ok for now but within the next 2 months it will need to be changed. I've had it on the computer thing what tells you
if anything is wrong and there are no error or problems at all.

Last night I speaking to a friend of mine who use to own the same car as mine and he said his used to make that sound all the time and his car was fine and he said leave it.

I've had quotes from £950 incl VAT but I've got a price from a VW specialist who said they will get the part (VW genuine part) and fit it for £334 incl VAT. I've got it booked in for Wednesday coming.

After talking to my friend who said it was fine and don't worry about until you hear hissing noise inside the car.

So should I listen to my friend or should I get it done?.

little more info:

I drive about 1300miles a week.
my MPG have dropped (used to get 67mpg motorway now i get 55mpg).
I only ever use Esso, Texco or BP fuel in my car.
DPF was checked and that is spot on (2%).

Any info would be great,

Thank you

Jesus 1300 miles per week? What do you do?

Sorry for the unhelpful post.

My job.

Quite a few people seem to have this issue, some have done it from new, could be a bad Pump sender.

Reading all of that its a mixed opinion about getting it done really. I watched the video from the OP and mine doesn't sound that loud so I might just leave it until it get really loud.. What would be the worse case of if does go? Just break down or will it do any damage?.
Don't think anyone reports breaking down in that thread.

So lets see
First trade professional says it's the pump
Second trade professional says it's the pump
"a few other" trade professionals say it's the pump
Your mate who had a car once says just leave it

and you don't know what do do...

Maybe change the pump?
