Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg to give away 99% of shares

uh oh, curing disease before actually having a solution to the lack of water issue. Fail.

Sadly so many things in this world do need fixing.

I just wish more billionaires would do the same as he has done. Weather it's for water or disease.

Yes, glad to see him doing this.

How about you?

What else was he going to do with it besides buy Apple or build a new continent to prepare for global domination?

He's investing 99% of his shares through a trust over the longer term. This is the gospels of Mark / Luke rather than dressing himself up in sack cloth.

Yes, I'm glad to see him doing this but some perspective is important.

right so after wading throug waffle:

Connecting every american classroom to high speed internet.
Clean energy solutions.
Free schooling for underprivaledged kids in california.
Teaching software.
Another software based learning initiative.
Another scheme paying for undocumented migrant college education

My favourite:

AltSchool is building a network of micro-schools that provides a uniquely personalized and child-centered K-8 learning experience through outstanding teachers, deep research and an innovative technology operating system. Our $15 million investment will enable this reimagined school experience to be offered to more students so they can achieve their full potential.

It looks like facebook is now spewing so much cash he literally does not know what to do with it anymore, the list goes on after the ones I posted, including 75m to his local hospital. 75 million!.

He could probably give away 99% of his total wealth tomorrow and still be a billionaire by the weekend...

Disease is probably the last on the list, and it applies to the West as much as anywhere else.
For every American that survives birth, they create a massive demand on the world's resources for as long as they live.
Have new ways for people to die is the only stabilising force nature has.

Humanity is obsessed with living for as long as possible, even when from 70-120 we are basically a vegetable but still able to consume.
Health care is only efficient for a society when it prolongs the working abilities of those able to contribute, trying to achieve the same goals for the young and the elderly is counter to this.

Zuckerberg imagines he is doing the right thing, but really he needs to be a bit more hard faced about the realities of poverty.
Bill Gates has more of a clue, recognising that water, sanitation and hygiene are core issues.

Good on the chap, let's see if money ends up making significant difference in the parts of the world where it gets invested.

It's good to see someone with money they couldn't possibly spend giving something back. Hats off to him, more 'rich people' should follow suite.

I see what you did there.... HAR

HAR HAR HAR.

HAR HAR HAR.

Or was it just bad spelling?

I'm not a very serious person, and did try and make light of the matter. :D

Yes I agree that there should be priorities when it comes to poverty. I'm just glad that some of the super rich in this world are setting a precedent at least.
