(I won't share the link here BTW)

This morning I was searching for a restaurant we went to a few years ago and I clicked on the link for it and was shown a page full of Japanese characters. Luckily I had my imageblocker on (I block all images by default, since some websites show gross stuff eg. IGN will show a screenshot from The Walking Dead, or those clickbait ads where they say "You won't believe these top 10 worst injuries". Prefer not to see it).

So I was very confused, since the I've been to the restaurant before and when you Google it it shows the tagline "British brasserie and bar", and it has all the Tripadvisor, opentable etc reviews, so the link is the proper one for the restaurant. Additionally, it's a very unique name, so not some generic term and nothing to do with Japan.

After reading some more search results, it seems the restaurant was closed, so I believe some Japanese person has bought the domain. Out of interest I used Google Translate to see what the page was actually about, and it mentioned "child" and "Echi". I am pretty sure Echi is the messed up anime they make with kids in it.

So my theory is some weirdos buy random domains that have expired then use them to host messed up content. So what should I do? AFAIK it's legal in Japan, and luckily I didn't actually see any pictures. I googled for how to report sites, but they seem to be for actual abuse, not cartoons.

What would you guys do. Should I just forget about it? It must be dodgy or why would they use a UK restaurant's name for their website?

TLDR: Always use an imageblocker.

what's the sites tld? if it's .co.uk I'd have thought you could have reported or made a complaint to Nominet?

It's .com. I also thought about nominet but I thought they can't do anything since it's not co.uk. I did a WhoIs lookup and I can see it was bought on some Japanese domain name website and it has the address there of some place in Osaka.

ah it that case I'd just forget about it because the below quote seems to be pretty close to the truth

Most anime is pretty creepy to be honest. Paedo material galore.

I thought it would have been blocked in the UK though, like they block torrent sites. Everything looks normal when you google the restaurant - it shows the little tagline or whatever, all the reviews and the Google maps box on the right showing the address. There's no hint that the page is now actually some weird ****.

Police, mate, ASAP. Just think of all those poor, oddly proportioned girls you'll be saving from a life of being oggled by weirdos. You'll be like a modern day Oskar Schindler.

Tar with a wide brush much?
Anime is everything from Transformers and Pokemon or Ghibli* to GOT type stuff or even pure adult. It is literally anything animated.

FutileBreadMachine, if in doubt you can report it IIRC the Internet Watch foundation in the UK accepts complaints and will investigate and if need be pass it on to other countries equivalents.

However it's worth noting that Ecchi can just mean slightly risky/rude - for example Animaniacs would probably be classed as "ecchi" at times as it was rude and made some very suggestive (if you picked up on it) jokes at times such as the Finger Prints sketch.
So things like sites about shows no worse than Animaniacs, or Spongbob and Squarepants etc could potentially have the two words.

*Spirited Away won an Oscar! (and yet "Only Yesterday" which is about a woman going to where she grew up has not IIRC had a US release, it's suggested because their is a reference to "Aunt Flo").

Do you mean anime as in Japanese style animation or do you strictly mean the creepy stuff that you specifically associate it with?

If the prior, then you are wrong and your statement is of the like to 'most live action videos are porn'

If the latter, then you are effectively saying 'creepy video is creepy'.

Cheers Werewolf. I hope it's nothing vile, but since it's not in the UK and not real I don't think anyone will do anything. Just freaked me out as soon as I saw "child" and "echi" since I heard that term previously, I think on BBC, they had some reporter going around the Manga shops in Japan and talking about what they allow to be printed there.

(I watched anime like Naruto and Bleach back in the day, and finished Attack on Titan recently, so I know it's not all creepy stuff)
