Another american mass shooting

No, it won't.

The general thought here is that guns don't kill people, a gun sat loaded on a table isn't killing anyone.

Here's a question, would the Paris attacks have been as bad if people were allowed to carry firearms legally? I guarantee the attackers would have seen a hell of a lot of return fire and maybe less people would have died. (lots of if's and maybe's but you get the idea)

Typical NRA / Right wing nonsense, devoid of reality and empirical evidence!

Obama's getting sick and tired of this nonsense. (response from previous shooting)

Derrick Bird. 12 dead with a weapon that's still legal.

Yep, they should have banned the .22 rifle as well. Doesn't really help your argument though!! Had Derrick Bird used a gun that had been banned you might of had a point!!

Now find me a mass shooting that has occurred since the ban where the mass murderer has used a gun that has been outlawed ?
/case closed ;-)

My only concern is what steps are taken to stop others from getting there hands on them?

You go to jail if there are children present and a firearm can be picked up.

Otherwise, you can get most any gun you like (semi auto) within 3 days, why would you really bother stealing one? Plus you know there's a gun in the house, you'd be insane to attempt to rob it lol

Everyone uses the 2nd amendment as an excuse to own a firearm, an amendment that was written over 200 years ago during a period where the world was a brutal place to be, certainly far more than modern times.

It's time to change it, problem is no one in politics has the balls to do it, as it would likely be political suicide for them.

People that want to do this sort of thing will get a gun regardless of the law on buying them. Gun crime is still present in the UK and they've been banned for years.

Really?

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crim...et-after-armed-post-office-raid-a3126716.html

Look at the guns they used, two rusted antiques.

Which proves in London acquiring a gun isn't as easy you'd believe. If the opposite were true these kind of armed robberies would be far more prevalent.

And the wide availability of guns simply starts a viscous cycle where people buy into the idea through fear of others having a gun.

Really? I wouldn't say the world was a less brutal place to live at all unfortunately :(

Last gun massacre in the UK?

Thank you.

Americans have a problem with guns on a cultural level. They are obsessed with them. Other countries that have similar gun control laws don't have the same sort of issues.

Essentially, America collectively has shown it can't use guns responsibly, so they shouldn't have the free access to them that they have.

This is why people are calling for gun controls, not because the guns themselves are the problem.

That was my main concern. My wife uncle lives in San Francisco and his daughters were at school when a boy took his father's gun into school to "scare" someone

Id like to have a FAC for sporting reasons but I accept the requirements to have one and I can't fulfill those.

How many mass shootings were there in Australia before they introduced gun control legislation in the wake of a mass shooting? How many mass shootings since? Hint - the answer is on this page!

Yes it works in Australia but the thinking in the US goes much deeper.

Even the friends that I know who would like agree with you and can imagine a world where it works, I really doubt when it comes to voting, they would agree to gun control. I have another friend, when she was single, sleeps with a pistol loaded with hollow rounds in her nightstand.

I still remember this scene clearly.

We drives to a small business park to pick up another friend on the way to a shooting range, another person was coming with us just took out his rifle and show another person in the group. Not just merely just looking at it in the case, but got it out and pointing it around the car park.

I was like

I do agree with you, as a Brit the idea of guns is crazy... however I exercised my right to the 2nd amendment and got one lol.

I'm speaking from talking to gun owners, they'd never give them up here, the constitution says they can have one and they have one, 99.99999% of them don't shoot anyone with them.

Comments like this make me cringe.

Great! I guess in Texas and Florida you have next to ZERO problems with home invasions, what with every tom dick and harry having a gun!!!

Guess what? Smack, crack and meth heads don't tend to think rationally when they are dying for another hit!!

if you break and enter with a gun is it still classed as a robbery? Just wonder how many of those robberies had guns in the equation from both parties.

Same for the 1st ammendment, the founding fathers could never have imagined social media and the internet. I mean look at how effectively ISIS and other terrorists are using tactical social media. It's literally a weapon of mass destruction, truely terrifying. I stay off facebook and all that, dont think I could trust myself with the responsibilty. Facebook, twitter and the like should really be banned IMO, or at least heavily vetted.

Controls in some areas don't really matter when there are no borders. Something needs to be done at the federal level, maybe during Hillary's terms..

People that break the law will always circumvent it even if it is at the federal level. If a county bans gun ownership or requires guns are locked in a shooting range etc then the gun crime rate would plummet. Most gun homicides are committed by the owners gun, if people didn't own the gun they wouldn't be shot by it.
County level controls would have a lesser impact on mass shootings but honestly, events like today are pretty insignificant relative to the thousands of deaths each year caused by thing like a 5 year old pulling a gun out of the mothers handbag, husband & wife in argument, other accidents etc.
