Another american mass shooting

Police have just said on the radio that one of the shooters is Farouk Said, 30 and that they are Arabic looking.

I didn't want to say it, and of course none of this is confirmed yet, but when I heard 1-3 shooters, heavily armed, wearing body armour, along with an IED... it might not be a "run of the mill" grievance killing, it might be related to something else.... but of course, we'll know more as more information comes in..

Sometimes i wish the internet, cell phones etc were never invented so i could feel as safe as i did as a kid. I know head in the sand but i wish it no less.

Yes, Australia. That's how an example from another country works... you have to look at an example from another country. You can't really use an American example for something they haven't tried... :o

Try watching the videos. They're pretty short. In total a quarter of an hour, iirc, and he's funny so they're entertaining throughout (as well as being v interesting, obviously).

Australia used to have a lot of mass shootings... then they introduced gun control laws and have had zero since. There had been 13 in the 18 years before the one which triggered the gun control legislation. Then the use of guns in crimes has decreased significantly, as have youth suicides, etc.

If you think gun control will ever happen in America, I have nothing to come back with as I don't believe that will ever happen, not in my life time. They hold the 2nd amendment like they do with the 1st.

I remember Australia, when it happened. Imagining the Americans hand over guns like that. It's not just I don't think it will happen, I can't even picture it.

It was roughly similar until they had a big massacre (port Arthur) and they banned lots of stuff, not had another "big" incident since, just a few small ones (can't get rid of every firearm).

Yes also remember Australia has 10% the population of the US.. So even if there was no ban you'd still have to wait tenfold before you can say look at Australia.

Well, public opinion is almost there/might be there already, depending on what they try and do... it's not as though the country is full of pro gun nuts. And the clue's in the name... it's an amendment... they can amend it! You don't think, for example, a series of Paris-esque massacres would maybe prompt them into change? We're not talking about just banning guns completely.

No, it won't.

The general thought here is that guns don't kill people, a gun sat loaded on a table isn't killing anyone.

Here's a question, would the Paris attacks have been as bad if people were allowed to carry firearms legally? I guarantee the attackers would have seen a hell of a lot of return fire and maybe less people would have died. (lots of if's and maybe's but you get the idea)

Of course they can amend it, it's only the constitution ! You make it sound like introducing a law to stop people littering.

Sad as it sounds, in Obama's words, these shootings has become routine, in short, people are actually learning to live with it.

Mass shooting
President makes statement
Some chatter about gun control
Chatter dies down
Everybody gets on with their lives

Mass shooting
President makes statement
...

rinse and repeat

Sure, I would love to see Americans change their mind and perspective on gun control, but it's just not in their DNA.

People that want to do this sort of thing will get a gun regardless of the law on buying them. Gun crime is still present in the UK and they've been banned for years.

I was actually chatting about gun controls to a friend who lives in Ohio. I was very surprised to find out from him that there is no requirement to keep them locked away.

My mate for example has guns all over his house

Last gun massacre in the UK?

Thank you.

I do agree with you, as a Brit the idea of guns is crazy... however I exercised my right to the 2nd amendment and got one lol.

I'm speaking from talking to gun owners, they'd never give them up here, the constitution says they can have one and they have one, 99.99999% of them don't shoot anyone with them.

I can walk the perimeter of my garden with mine fully locked and loaded, cops can't even approach me.

Organisations would, random nutjobs people wouldn't. When was the last time someone went rampant in the UK with an arsenal? When asking the same question in a country such as the US it's more a case of how many times in the past year. To be fair that would more fairly be put Europe vs US for population.
