No, this is a rant, nothing more.

But why on earth would you attempt delivery at 2310??? And just how much pressure are these poor delivery drivers under to get stuff to people at such a time in the night! Christmas time must be hell for those guys.

Not sure whether to be mad at the delivery schedule (told between 0800 and 2000) or thank the delivery driver for doing his utmost best to get the huge amount of parcels delivered.

If they're one of the self employed drivers from somewhere like Hermes then they'll be slammed as they get paid per drop IIRC, I've had ones try and deliver in the morning when I was at work then actually come back late in the evening to catch me after work on the same day just to get it delivered.

The recent sales week must have been insane, my OcUK order is turning up today, a day late, and my Amazon order which I paid extra for next day delivery is also turning up a day late. I'll be getting that one refunded.

Muppet delivery driver left a note saying "parcel in big round black thing outside" last night.

That'll be the dustbin then.
Its normally full of (bagged!) cat litter.

Thanks.. that'll be a nice present!

Had a driver do this to me before. It was bin collection day. Luckily I caught it just as the bin men were doing our street. Absolute muppet of a driver, no idea what was going through their head. Makes me wonder how many parcels are lost due to things like this.

Our recycling bin (clean dry stuff) and general minging waste bin are next to each other next to the front door, whenever they decide a bin is a good place to leave it it's always in the general waste one!?

Be happy if my guy tried this. Hermes parcel I've been waiting for has on 3 occasions been marked as "address unreachable" - fair enough in the mornings we've got roadworks but every other courier has got out of his van to walk the 20m (if that!) from the roadworks to my front door. Not to mention it's a small parcel that weighs about 200g so not like I'm expecting him to lug it around!

Thank god our bins are hidden behind the horse stables, and not at the front of the house.

Mind you, they have sometimes left a parcel in the stables them selfs.

Had a driver once leave a note through the door saying he had left the package in the cardboard bin and checked the schedule with the local council before dong so.

Very thoughtfull and does not annoy me once bit don't think he was a "muppet" at all just a person trying to get there job done.

I do feel a bit for drivers at this time of the year, it was bad enough with just the Christmas rush, now they get the whole Black Friday/Cyber Monday ordeal beforehand.

I once left delivery instructions with a courier (Yodel) that stated "If no-one is home please just leave the package under the lid of the BBQ in the side garden."

For context in my side garden there is:

1. Some grass
2. A large black Weber kettle bbq with ample space for packages inside.
3. Nothing else

Had a delivery note through the door from Yodel "WHAT IS A BBQ?? PARCEL AT DEPOT"

Cardboard recycling bin maybe. (although any bin, I would say is a bad idea. What happens if the note is missed or someone else piles other stuff in there too?)

But one that smells of cat crap?
And has a poop scoop leaning against it?
That has "muppet" written all over it to me.

To be honest I quite often leave delivery instructions with couriers to leave it in the bright blue recycling bin. So given that some customers are happy to have stuff left in there, I can see they might be trying to be helpful.

Better than this guys chinaware delivery:

I think the root cause of the problem is that delivery drivers are paid for successful drops. Unsuccessful drops are therefore costing the driver (because they aren't being paid for the time) money leading to all sorts of sillyness.

Then add in all the temporary drivers brought in for christmas and you compound the problem.

The fair thing to do would to have a mechanism for drivers to prove delivery was attempted. GPS and a timestamp would do this, or a go-pro of your nice shiny front door and a timestamp, all uploaded to the web for customers to go "Thats not my house!".

But that will cost delivery companies money, that cost will be passed onto merchants who will have to pass that cost to customers. But everyone loves their "Freeeeeeeeeee delivery!".

Last Friday night Amazon Logistics delivered at 22:45. First time we've had a delivery that late.

Had DPD phone me up at work to ask if it was ok to leave a parcel or 2 by our front door. We live in a block of flats so you have to go through the outer door, then a fire door, up some stairs and another fire door to get to our front door.

Said it was ok as the boxes were just brown ones and pretty safe.

Yodel guy just left 3 big boxes (Boxes for an Asus monitor) outside my front door and marked it as delivered
