ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Paveways are an appropriate choice against fixed pre planned targets, and likely a lot cheaper. We do care about the cost of this war don't we ?

We were also told that we had to commit because we have resources other nations don't. If we're only going to use munitions that were already being used then why have we committed to an endless war?

Unless you have been involved in some secret briefings you don't know what is going to be used this afternoon or tomorrow or next week.

Maybe we just have a professional military who are able to select the most appropriate weapon for the job and last night that's what they did.

For this target they used Paveways which were appropriate, for the next they may use Brimstones if required.

Other countries don't have the option, we have the option and I assume our military knows which job requires which bomb.

Edit: As above, we posted at the same time.

This is the 2007 apache airstrike video on the van that was released by Wikileaks in case anyone else is wondering what the relevance is. Im still wondering...

The psychology of western forces to shoot anyone they fancy is the relevance, the same thing is happening now in Syria.

The inability to lateral think when it suits people astonishes me, people try to be 'clever' and point this and that out............when you show them the obvious of what happens on the ground and in the war zone, all you can say is 'whats relevent here'......EVERYTHING      .

The responses I read on this forum from a vast amount of individuals sickens me to the stomach, I am ashamed to share the board with you.

What the **** is wrong with people?

Talking about munitions like its common knowledge and as small talk?

This society really has taken the militarisation of life too lazily, I cringed hard when I saw what looked like a contractor advert for brimstone on BBC news yesterday.

I feel you dude, people are insane judging by some of the comments on here, utterly nuts.

Firstly, I hope you get banned for that.

Secondly, those are mostly likely casualties from Assads bombing, you know, the same bombing you have ignored for three years, until the opportunity arises to use the pictures of the victims so you can try and persuade everyone to carry on ignoring their plight and bury their head in the sand so that assad can kill some more of them. Tough on you, that didnt happen.

I can barely believe you are actually using their pictures to try and persuade us to leave things alone so more of them will die. For that reason, you are the kind of person who gets all excited by pics of dead kids, you sicko.

I don't think bombing will end their war. I do think bombing will lead to children dying. I agree it is sick. You wouldn't burn down a house to extract a nail. Why bomb a country to extract a death cult.

You know, your need to dig up something from 2007, where Apache's were used, and which bears absolutely no relation to an air campaign in Syria, shows your 'amazing insight we all lack' would not be missed.

Feel free to rid yourselves of us by storming out that door! I would, if I felt that way and had an ounce of moral courage. Never post again! Thatll show us!

I don't get why people are losing their minds, we aren't bombing Syria. We have voted (via democracy) to extend military operations into Syria to combat Islamic State...

This isn't WW2 where we are using hundreds of planes and thousands of dumb bombs. Last night we used 2 planes. 2 sorties. 12 precision guided bombs. Hitting key military and infrastructure targets inside ISIS control territory. People who harp on about civilian casualties need to stop being so naïve.

Granted I don't think it will solve the problem, but it isn't going to make things worse. I'd rather us put up a fight.

Some people just have another agenda to pursue. Besides, if you look almost anywhere else everyone has moved on, the fact were in a thread about it on an internet forum gives a distorted view of how little anyone actually gives a ****.

Not sure if I'm mis-reading what you are implying but people have been making small talk about military hardware since its existed...

Point proven.

If you think the west continually bombing the east in Syria, Iraq, Afgan etc and elsewhere.......will bring peace - then you and many others with the same belief cannot be reasoned with - you are clinically insane.

Watch that video, because this one leaked example simply shows what happens all the time - if you are ok with us bombing children then you need to have a word with yourself.

If you think our 'smart' bombs check passports and birth certificates (as pointed out by Steven Fry), then you are incredibly deluded.

I've no doubt at least some innocents are already dead........most likely some, probably also children are currently dying under some rubble, slowly bleeding out, probably with horrendous injuries..........broken bones, in pain unimaginable to us forum posters................ for what................your ok with that?

And so now - with money that we are told didn't exist to help our NHS, teachers, police, social services, or the poor - we suddenly find the money to fund creating some more refugees, and some more martyrs to inspire more terrorists.
And let's note with sadness that our government can't tell the difference between the two types of people it's helping to create.
And lets note the same thing happened in Afghanistan, and Iraq.
And let's note it's the same playbook our government are using to enact all this as the Nazi's used to exterminate the Jews.
And lets note that the government doing this got into power with a whopping 37% of the population wanting them there and 63% didn't.
None of this is new. We still have leaders who fall for this ****. Time after time.
Happy Christmas everyone. People at home have a pay cut. People abroad have some bombs. People in power have a nice kickback. Lovely.

Indeed.

You aren't making much sense? You saying that smart bombs still kill civilians?

I am not being funny, but if a smart bomb is dropped on a military target, in ISIS controlled territory, and a 'civilian' is killed. Good.

I probably wouldn't describe them as a civilian however.

You're arguments regarding funding don't make much sense either. It's the militaries money. It's been given to them in past budgets. The weapons have already been bought... we aren't taking away money from anywhere. It's already been allocated.

If the RAF keep going after the oil then its a legitimate way of slowing down the funding = no oil to sell and transport , no income!

Us not getting involved in Syria isn't going to stop that happening either.

I mentioned WW2 and carpet bombing.

Back against the Nazis there was a lot less regard for human life in the bombing campaigns. People don't disagree with the action back then.

I copied this to my Facebook it says what I want to say and makes sense.

I'd quite like to post videos of what ISIS do to civilians that won't follow suit in Syria, homosexuals thrown off of buildings, Christians burned alive etc.

ISIS are carrying out horrific killings of civilians, ON PURPOSE.

We are targetting, ISIS positions within their held territory with precision bombs. If innocent people die, it is terrible and nobody wants that.

But they also don't want ISIS to have a free march across Syria doing whatever they want to whoever they want on the way.
