Howdy!

Okay I got my fiberoptic broadband yesterday finally,

First question, iv got BT infinity option 2, which was supposed to be upto um, 75mbps? or around that, I remember reading a guaranteed speed or else your money back or something, im 100% sure it was around 60mbps?

Does anyone know what the guarantee actual speed was? out of curiosity id like to know :p I wish id of print screened as iv googled and cant find anything to do with it now heh, typical.

Okay I was on 18mbps ADSLS before, and I used to get 1.8mb/s DL speed and 0.8mbps upload speed (which was Shockingly slow uploading)

Now, speed tests, and I get constant every time 100% bang on the same, 40mbps download and 10mbps upload. that's 4mb/s dl, and 1mb/s up.

Speeds are fantastic compared to what I had before, plus believe it or not its cheaper than the old package I was on that we signed up to um, some 8 years ago or more haha.

Anyway, id like to know what that gaurenteed speed was, im sure for the life in me it was 60mbps download, which would be um, another 1/3rd on top of what iv got now :O maybe im being greedy, but anyways the deal I signed for was 75mbps, not 40mbps as that is the lower infinity 1 deal.

Anyway, that a side, Ping (MS) has gone from 38-40MS, to a constant 18MS-20MS highest in games etc, BUT

Biggest BUT ever, I now and then and when it does happen, I get random lags in game, and the whole lot hangs up for about 3-4 seconds, like imagine a lag switch, you flick the switch, internet stops, flick it on, all is updated instantly to whats happening, that's what happens.

It happens at random times too, also ping doesn't go up either which usually does happen after or during a lag, it just literally lags, then its as if it never happened, also it does it on not just my pc, but others connected.

So is this just because its a new line? Or maybe they are still fiddling with stuff? Maybe its not settled in right? Or should I play around with BT HUB 5 router settings? Or should I buy a new router all together?

Thanks.

Also (geeky part coming), as a guild leader of 2800 on a world of warcraft WOTLK (100% Blizz retail like) server its quite essential I get this lag stopped as it caused a major wipe at 12% left of a boss fight during Lich King 25hc 0% ICC buff. :D

IIRC BT's guaranteed speed on fibre is usually 10% of the sync speed. So if you are are syncing at 40Mb then BT would only consider you as slow if you were getting less than 4.

Lag spikes is an interesting one, fibre takes 3 days to "settle" but shouldn't ever really perform how you are reporting. It may be worth setting up a TBB ping monitor to see how it is behaving over time.

Hmm, its strange because usually if a lag happens ping shoots up for a few seconds, it doesn't change at all, it just lags then comes back again as if nothings happened, also it does it at random times, might not happen for few hours, then do it 5x in one min, or every 5 mins for half hr.

And nope im connected via eithernet cables, I hate wireless.

And yeah I was thinking that I get constant 40MBPS, so I was thinking they've put me on the 40mbps option 1 not the 75mb option 2.

Recon I should give em a call?

Well the little lags have fully disappeared now, must have just been new line settling in, I get a constant 40mbps down and 10mbps up all time.

So think I should ring them and say im paying for option 2 which is 75mbps down and 20 up? and im only getting 40 down 10 up?

cheers

Wait a week, they play around with the speeds for a few days to see what your line is capable of. When I first had fibre installed day 2 to 4 was stuck on as low as 4mb, then after that it shot back up to max speed.
